Wellll, since I'm the only one, I believe, on this thread that suggested don't read what you don't want or at least the most recent, I must object, your honor, to the phrases "with an agenda" and calling any person a "radical."
But maybe these posters are referring to a "composite person" lol! (That's WT speak and please don't infer that I'm comparing anyone to the, cringe, WT, just that I borrowed a phrase from their buzzwords.)
Anyway, dear audience (anyone who reads my post), it's the last thing I want is to hurt anyone and I refrained from all political posts for quite a while because of learning a private situation with a poster, and I still refrain from saying things outright that I really believe about this aggression in Iraq.
But it really seems to me, quite honestly, with no agenda behind it, that to be told not to speak about subjects we may be quite passionate about and very interested in, because some people will go on those threads any way even if they know they're upset by them, seems to be a bit unfair.
And to feel that the entire board should comply with their wishes of silence because they're aware of them and even that's upsetting seems to me to be beyond reasonable.
Should politics be called the same as the other guidelines prohibit? What about other hot topics: abortion, drugs, evolution? What if other posters become "offended" by the existence of these threads? I mean, really.
But it's not my board. What I like about the board is the wide variety of subjects discussed. To say political subjects are verboten, to me, seems like saying newspapers cannot discuss politics, what people are most interested in, especially this year.
And please, be fair, and don't say all political discussions and posters resort to name-calling. It seems to me that the majority of posters are reasonable and well-informed. Is it wrong to discuss things because we don't agree or feel very passionate? Are we supposed to only discuss subjects that don't mean as much?
I've tried to go to political boards, but have not felt inclined to discuss it with people that I don't know as I know people here.
Again, I say if you don't like the subject (whatever it is) just don't open those threads. Is that so hard or impossible to do? I do it about drugs and even abortion.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Pat
