Once again this forum remains true to form. With absolutely no knowledge of the circumstances they are willing to pass a verdict.

    The Watchtower protects murderers!!

The congregation is put at risk!!

And next - Proplog2 is probably defending this because he's killed somenone and is hiding it.

    NO knowledge of the circumstances?

I think the Society's letter gives enough information for us to see that the Society DOES hide certain wrongdoing...

You explained that you received information indicating that this brother ?committed several murders and crimes before his baptism.? You ask if ? law obligates some action on our part. law enforcement authorities have no knowledge of this matter.?

As elders, you have no obligation to reveal information of this type to the authorities. . What he does about paying his debt to Society is largely up to him and his conscience.

Never mind doing the right thing, helping to bring about justice that hasn't yet been visited upon this murderer.

... he is apparently a fugitive from the law,

But go ahead and hide him away in the Kingdom Hall.

You state that you have ?one report of his smoking marijuana with his co-workers which may have been after his baptism.? We assume that is the reason that you feel a need to meet with him.

Now THERE's something serious. One smoking incident. Go ahead and nail him on that one. Never mind the murder that happened before, and never mind that the murder victim's family is still grieving and wanting justice.

um......perhaps our knowledge is actually based on our OWN past practical EXPERIENCE, instead of depending on the light emanating from the tunnel where our respective heads are alleged to be, Proplog2.

    BTW.....ARE YOU?

I would appear the Society is using the ?Priest privilege? to their own benefit, god help them if it was an actual priest though, then it would be bad. I find it hard to understand why the elders were counseled to confront him on the pot, but not on the murder charges and perhaps council him to clear his conscience by turning himself in. That to me would seem a reasonable ?Priest privilege? solution, and show the actual heart condition of the man.

    Go figure.

IF this letter is legitimate (and I do have some doubts) it is another example of actions putting to lie the claim of moral superiority and the one true organization.

BigTex, he got the link at the SilentLambs website, where Bill Bowen posted the letter, Bill being privvy to many allegedly secret papers, letters and memos of the WTS at Bethel, through the support of.....insiders.

I don't believe Bill would have posted the letter, if it weren't valid copy, because of the possibility of a libel suit by the WTS which could be incurred. JMO, no harm intended.

New York law (NY CPLR 4505) provides that: "Unless the person confessing or confiding waives the privilege, a clergyman, or other minister of any religion or duly accredited Christian Science practitioner, shall not be allowed to disclose a confession or confidence made to him in his professional character as a spiritual advisor."

The Bible does not say you have to tell all you know.

If I belong to a religion, I would hope they would appeal to the better angels of our nature. I would hope they would teach morals and ethics and then follow them to the best of their ability. I would hope they would inspire their followers and give hope and comfort through love and self-sacrifice.

If I want to follow the letter of the law, I'll consult a lawyer.

The content of the letter quoted is not challenged by anyone as far as I know ? Indeed for myself I have sufficient experience of these things to recognise completely the WT stamp on this document

It is to my 100% satisfaction therefore the case that the WT protects murderer(s) - can't be certain of the plural but in this case what else are they doing - warning his "brothers", neighbours, the authorities - absolutely NOT! The congregation IS put at risk - if a fire hazard existed in a KH and the responsible elders knew and took no action then they are putting the congregation members at risk - if a confessed murdered is present in the cong and no one warns the brothers who is to blame if any harm results ?

"Privilege" in terms of knowledge of anothers actions is a thin excuse for the WT to use here as they encourage blatant breaches of priviliged information across the medical and legal field and indeed any field they care to name.
