Hey folks we are planning a family vacation for Feb and wondered if you would share your experiences. Our BEST vacation was in St. John USVI a few years ago, but can't quite swing that this winter.

Warm weather and good snorkeling are the goals, although the kids are interested in a cruise. Which I guess some starting in

Any ideas or good or bad experiences to share or suggest?

    Thanks

CG - Next time you call the sheriff could you ask what the crime rate is down in the mid-americas?

They do sound good as when I was a diver they were popular spots.

My family always used to go to K-mart for our family vacations. Lots of fun times there. That's when they had the Commodore 64 attraction which was usually running Classic Concentration or Card Sharks. I'd sit there for hours playing. At that time, they also had an Atari 7200 set up with the game Food Fight, but that wasn't as fun.

In later years, they had a Nintento set up with Super Mario Bros. They also had a Gameboy set up with Tetris. Those were fun times, but the stupid gameboy would reset every once in a while.

Many of the cruise lines cater to families. I'd go to a reputable travel agent that specializes in cruises and tell them what you want and your budget...then watch all your choices manifest themselves! Good luck!

I'm hearing some great things about Belize. I have some friends here who go down there a few times a year and say that it's inexpensive and it's fun. I may check it out this winter myself with the prices they are talking about. (that is with some connections they have though for lodging etc)

I didn't care for Cancun. Too commercial for my liking.

Ocho Rios Jamaica was great too !!

Let us know where you end up deciding to go !!

Beaches Resorts (all inclusive) in Jamaica are wonderful. They keep the kids busy all day with activities so the parents can lay on the beach. And you don't have to worry about tipping like the cruise lines, and also the drinks are included at all inclusives, but not on cruises, where a beer can cost $10.00!

Hmmm...if you are feeling a bit adventurous I would recommend a town called Akumal on the Yucatan peninsula. Just about an hour from Cancun and 45 minutes from Playa del Carmen. Small place with beautiful beaches, the chance to snorkel out into Half Moon Bay and see the big sea turtles. Also located withing driving or day tour of the ruins of Tulum, which has an awesome beach as well, and Chichenitza, which has stunning temples and ruins. Below is the website to the people we used. Some of them moved down to the Yucatan from the states and started a business. They also opened Akumal's library. When we went we took all kinds of books, clothes, an toys to the kids there, who generally congregate there daily. I wasn't worried about security there. There were guards all hours of the night and even the odd soldier patrolling the beaches for turtle poachers. I felt very safe and had an awesome time. Also not being around the big crowds and opportunistic people like in Cancun is best for a family vacation IMO.

    Sincerely,
