How do you cheer yourself up?

If your JW family upset you, or if you're having "one of those days" (or weeks, or months ) what techniques do you use to cheer yourself up?

Is there anything that you actively do to counter the negative feelings?

I usually try to go into "look after myself" mode and spend some time alone just relaxing or having a good cry . I might do some yoga or meditation, or have a long soak in the bath. Sometimes I get out my fav TV show on video and watch it for 4 hours straight.

    What do you do?

Doing something nice for myself - even if it's a solitary walk along the local nature trails - seems to help a lot. Bubble baths and soothing music CDs are good. Doing something fun with my kids is good too.

My "private" thing though is to take my favorite CDs in the car and crank them up real loud and sing along.

Nowadays I do some moving meditation, like TaiChi. The exercise helps.

Once I've got myself in a better place I examine why I felt like that, in an attempt to get to the root causes.

I finish with some more TaiChi. The second bout usually being far better and more focussed than the first.

I find that once I've stripped away some of the illusions and self-generated noise, from my thoughts, I interact on a far more primitive way with my surroundings. Experience, emotion, and reaction are far more spontaneous. Things flow and ebb. They "just are", and I "just am".
I hear the raindrops, once more...

I like singing in the car too! People sometimes look at you funny though

    Toe,

I've heard TaiChi is great for relaxation.

I'd agree. Whilst still feeling overly emotional about something its difficult to see straight, but then when you get to a better place its easier to analyse.

Time is sometimes the key IMO.

Aye. "Sometimes" being, "if used wisely", yes?
If it's allowed to "just be time" it allows a feeling to just get buried. It can later bubble to the surface, along with a myriad others. In my own experience it's best to deal wth things pretty soon, preferably before sleep. Otherwise sleep has a habit of dealing with it for you, and the repercussions can last for days.

Yeah I slap myself (really sometimes) asking me to think about something else, forget about it or when needed to come back to good feelings (trying to understand the other sides of the story) - and Music, dancing crazy in my living room, walking, talking, sex or anyway working on anything interesting or new helps a lot ...

i try not to let anyone get me down, 'cos if they are, then i feel that it's a reflection of themselves. but if i do feel low then these help me....

thinking of frenchbaby's smile works really well! hehe. drinking a large glass of water funnily enough helps me, i cant think why. going for a walk and smokin a fag. thinking of ways to piss people off who take themselves too seriously. watching a few episodes of 'bottom'.

Why do that to yourself honey, when there are so many willing volunteers! (have you seen 'Airplane') lol

If someone's hacking me off, I just beat em up! Only kidding!!!!!

I like to get my favourite comedy and put that on for hours on end - things like Bottom, Red Dwarf, Vicar of Dibley or Blackadder - they all help to lift my spirits!! If I'm in the car and feeling stressed, I like to listen to Jo Brand, or some really loud Heavy Metal !

I quite fancy trying Tai Chi, might help limber up my poorly knees too!!!

    Bull!

Now you understand why I'd rather do it to myself before someone gets to that point ...
