Getting back to this----Believing in prayer for some is a way to deal. I guess it's better than taking drugs.
Do You Actually Believe In The "Power of Prayer"???

If praying makes you feel better, gives you a feeling that you are doing something by all means do it. As pointed out, it can't hurt.
But there is a point where action instead of prayer needs to be taken. Like when a JW child reports abuse to an elder and since there is only 1 witness, they Pray that it works itself out.

If it worked the JW's would not be over their heads in crap.

Thinking about this thread overnight, The main reason why I personally have hardly prayed since stopping the witness activity, is that we have always been taught that prayer was no good unless it is said in absolute faith and confidence "He that approaches God must believe that he is, and becomes the rewarder of those serving him" Therefore, "Sad that some of us won't even give it a try." That thinking would seem unrealistic to a dub trained mind because such a prayer would be doomed to failure because it may not be said in total faith and confidence.. If I stop and think, it is the J W spin on this that says it, not necessarily the scriptures themselves, not unaquivocally anyway. Perhaps there is room for manoevre here. BTW Rachel. I do not know your story, but I certainly hope things work out .

BB:That's an interesting observation.
I find discoveries like that enlightening, to say the least, when I find them in my own processes.

I'm sorry to mislead. It was meant as a joke regarding my bad behavior. I have two sisters-in-law who are fundies and seem to think I'm doomed for hell. I'm a good person, really!
I promise not to post on this thread again. I can't quite get it right.

Maybe I am doomed. I promised not to post and then inadvertantly clicked twice.
I'm going back to bed.

Rachel:Don't make promises you can't keep
Anyhow, in their belief system hell isn't synonymous with being bad, but rather "Christ-less".
LT, of the "bad to the bone" class

All right but it's your fault. I could have kept quiet um, well I think I could.

My daughter was told by her 15 year old cousin that I would be going to a "mean heaven" where they would make me believe in God. Nice belief that I will be tortured in hell simply because Christianity is not a belief I can swallow anymore.
I do believe in God, but I don't believe Jesus is God or a God or even necessarily the son of God.
