In a time of fear and mass insecurity, dark religious themes have found an eager audience, not a new one , but, a revealed one.

Judgment Day, Armageddon and the Revelation are among the jolly themes now inspiring television shows, Hollywood movies, books, even Broadway style musicals.

The passion of the Christ. Left Behind novels. The Daughter of God. The Da Vinci Code. The Da Vinci Legacy. Mary. The Matrix. The Ten Commandments Musical.

Purified bottled water from the Red Sea could be right behind.

This was taken in part from the T.V. Guide, week of Aug. 22 - 28, this issue goes into these things much more.

Oh you know how it is: when times are depressing, people start thinking the world will soon end. It's just a symptom of widespread upset over the sad state of the world. That's all. No worry: no problem.

You would think that in this fertile ground, the JWs should be flourishing, not floundering.

Actually, I'm not sure what the meaning of the Armagedon's popularity is. Is it popular because it is colorful, but not threatening? Could it be that the turning of the millenium has relegated apocalyptic thinking to the realm of fantasy literature?

Lets have another drink and have some fun.....life is too short for this "nonsense".

Those themes have been popular topics of entertainment since..... well since people thought them up thousands of years ago.

    i'd agree with that.

but i also think that its human nature to not want to miss out on anything. everybody knows that someday soon we will die. people try desperately to convince themselves that only the body will die, but their life will continue in some form somewhere. that's not an easy thing to completely convince yourself of though since there is no proof. how much easier it is to convince yourself that, yes, you will die...but the entire world will die with you (it's easy to imagine since the world is so screwed up). but that way, you won't miss out on anything.

"if i have to die, i'm taking you all with me" mentality.

    Yikes!

For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark, and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away.

Maybe all these "End Time/back to the Bible" movies that we are seeing right now are a subtle wake up call from someone(THE GREAT DIRECTOR) who knows what time it is.
