Before Y2K I was surprised how many people thought there would be some kind of apocalypse, caused by computer breakdowns or, some people thought, by god. And what surprised me even more is that they seemed rather excited about it, although they said they were worried and depressed. I thought about this, and my theory (which is mine) is that some people would rather like the world to end. Maybe because they have always been unhappy and and don't really want to be here and don't know how to change their lives for the better, or maybe because they think the world is such a rotten place that it deserves to end.
Nobody ever confirmed this theory, because I never asked. I thought it would be rude and they wouldn't admit it anyway.
at least you have the good sense to be afraid
yes...'good sense'...
what better guiding force for your life than fear?
doogie,
without inherent sense of fear mankind wouldn't have made it this far.
I am afraid for mankind when we fall into the hands of God. I personally do not fear God. My motivation to fear is love. God, when we see Him, is going to be fear-inspiring, count on it.

People want to see the end of the world for a sense of vindication, too. They feel that their life is crummy. They've relegated their dreams to dusty untouched corners of their imaginations, and they want to feel like they haven't wasted their lives. Surely when God comes and wipes out all those terrible happy people who enjoyed their lives, it'll all be worth it!
It's just more religious passive-agressivism.

i personally believe that fear is a learned trait. babies are the bravest people i've ever met.
besides, humans only learn fear of god (in the form here alluded to) when they decide that they are not (or when they decide that others are not...) living up to certain 'divine' standards that they themselves have decreed.
like you, i personally do not fear god.
People want to see the end of the world for a sense of peace too.
They appreciate their life, and want it to continue, as well as the lives of all the other happy people.
but... if that person looks around at the nuclear threat, the disease, starvation, ecological damage and crimes of all kinds, I would want to make it nice for all of the other happy people. The only way this will happen is if someone bigger than us steps in. God will stand up, He will stand up for the diseased, the starving, the victims of these crimes of all kinds. It's a good thing.

Well, admittedly it would be nice to sit back and let someone else do the work, because presumably he could get it done faster and more efficiently. But I think if we look at God's track record - a 100% failure to act - then we have to say realistically that it's going to be up to us.
Humans have been through tough spots before. The challenges are different today than they were in the past, but they were different in the past than in the more distant past. The fact is that the world is constantly changing. Now let's get out there and do what needs to be done to meet the challenges and move on! If God wants to help/take over at some point, cool. But we can't sit around waiting for God to fix everything.

I'm afraid Michelle that is the way humanity learns. they are willing to try just about anything that results in a "quick fix". Eventually when everything else doesn't work, the words of the prophets of God are finally vindicated.. Woops, ain't spose to preach here!!

Carmel,
I have been preaching, will I get in trouble from someone? Will that person contact me? Am I going to hell?
