There are currently two classes of blood substitutes; one is actually a derivative of hemaglobin, (made from blood) and the other is a flourocarbon. Here is a good article:

upside/down,
Your delivery could really use some improvements. You make absolute comments like "ALL doctors" know how harmful blood is without mentioning that WHEN these same doctors know the only alternative to saving a life is using blood they would do so.
I am happy that your son came through his ordeal safely. I think what six and avishai are trying to say is that when an organization (like JW's) make ASOLUTE rules without taking into consideration the exception that always exists, it is just plain wrong.
Good on you that you are no longer a mindless dub. Don't condemn others for having "escaped" just because they are not exactly like you.
Brad
It is interesting to note that the WTS "allow" Hemopure, which is made from blood.

You're all right,
I guess I've been violating "gods" req's all along and didn't even realize it- I LOVE A GOOD BLOODY STEAK!!! LOL
The witnesses quibble over fractions of blood what's "gospel" this year is "old light" next year. I would love to the WTS stock portfolio and see if there is any tobacco or defense Co. stuff in there (probably blood component stocks too!) And all this "straining out the gnat while gulping down the camel", on the part of the WTS, is EXACTLY my beef. So again I say "I agree". The teaching is IRRELEVANT- didn't Jesus say it's not what enters a man that defiles him but what proceeds out of him? I know so many Dubs that wouldn't accept a piece of birthday cake for FEAR of becoming unclean somehow- but not hesittate to maliciously gossip, slander, bear false witness, look the other way when serious crimes are being committed, ignore the orphan and widow, shun on spurious ground, steal etc. But you see I learned that just like when I was Catholic we always had an out- confession (with some sort of penance, usually $$ and prayers). The Dub equivelant is meetings and service(maybe a little $$)- this covers a multitude of sins! Barfff!
I think I've figured it out- the JWs are nothing more than a modern version of the old Jewish nation (Pharisees and all!). Show me where they don't parallel each other. It's almost like "spiritual germophobes" (is that a word?)Legalistic, profiteering, subjugate the week (except on Sundays), use the "law" to excuse your own actions while at the same time using it to control and abuse others, us and "them" (Gentiles) mentality, God loves us more than anyone because we say so (even if we are rotten to the core), etc. Anyway I thought God had declared allthings "clean" ceremonially speaking. The attitude toward blood was meant to be a showing of respect for "life". No more than the "fruit" in Eden represented something. The Dubs have once again missed tha point- missing the "weightier matters of the law namely justice and mercy". Or something like that... I still say Jesus knew how to call a spade a spade! None of this is anything new...

You asked for it, here it is. Some great reading in the WTS owning stock in the Rand co. Which makes weapons.
Chappy,
What a great reference your link has proved to be- and NonJW to boot!
I guess I'm not as ignorant as I thought I was...

LOL! Better take a closer look at that web page, upside down medicine man.
You put the pride of keeping your uninformed yet sacrosanct opinion above the sanctity of human life. I used to do the same thing, and spout the same vile shit, back when I was a witness. I may not have been lying, but I was being dishonest anyway, I was just reserving my right to be dishonest with myself, and to repeat the propoganda of others that I truly trusted.
Frankly, where lives are at stake, I find "lying" vs "promoting inaccuracies that I truly believe", to be a distinction w/o a difference. If you ever influenced even one person to choose death over life, you'd be guilty of manslaughter, morally if not legally speaking.
Upside/down just letting you know I enjoyed reading your posts. My son is a paramedic so I get to hear lots of stories. Like you, I believe in choices, I always have and always will.
As to understanding people, well, there just that, people. Too many people strain out the gnat and gulp down the camel don't they? Do you play musical instruments or in a band?

Yeah golf I like to play guitar - only dream I could play like Slash (thus the pic). A childhood fantasy I'll probably always hang onto.
6of9- I don't know if your sober when you read my stuff, but I'veNEVER advocated someone "choose death over life".You really need to take the "chip" off your shoulder- really I'm friendly! Apparently I can't even agree with you without setting you off. I don't know what to say man. You've got it out that I'm ADVOCATING Dub doctrine- NO WAY. I just hope you can see that. Here's to freedom
Peace,
