When there was a similar thing in our congregation all servants were warned about going to the wedding. That must have been around 1993. It left a bad taste in the mouth of everyone but many thought is was the JW fault to invite any servants and bring them into this situation. Her father is still a JW elder.

On the other hand, there will not be many willing and capable men left to do the work for the WTS.

So let me get this straight. He asked his fellow elders, and they said, "conscience matter." They didn't know any more than he did. Then almighty CO comes along with his secret letter, tells them they were wrong, and punishes the person who followed the advice he was given by the elders? How stupid.

with his wife to say that it's been 3 months since my daughter's wedding and in October he got deleted for going to it EVEN THOUGH the Presiding Overseer told him it was a "conscience matter.

    Minimus,

When you say that he got deleted, do you mean that he was disfellowshipped?

Another example of the crazy dogmatic, rules-based approach that the Society has toward people, quite contrary to that of Christ.

I personally was shocked when I was under pressure over a private family matter just how much material the CO was able to dig up to show me how I could be seen to be in the wrong and how this would affect my standing as an elder in the congregation. He looked up Watchtower articles from the dark ages and printed them out to give to me. It seemed he put far more effort it to this than trying to understand my circumstances.

There is no way a JW can exercise his/her conscience. That's why most of us HAD to leave. That is such a joke "conscience matter" - tell me what JW was ever able to live by a "Bible trained conscience?" Nah; it is the WTS way, or the highway. Then again, why is your friend appealing? Screw them, and let them eat crap at their "spiritual banquets." Bastards and low life leaders are defeated when we walk away and they have no power over us. May Brooklyn burn this year and all of its branches. Just a wish!

    Lawrence,

    Not so sure I am quite as bittter as you are but how right you are;

Bastards and low life leaders are defeated when we walk away and they have no power over us.

No, Englisman, in the US the term deleted means he is no longer an elder but it does not mean they have been DF'd.

If you need to make some adjustments, be willing to admit a fault and work on it with God?s help. Some who have been deleted as elders have adopted an unchristian attitude, and a few have become inactive or have fallen away from the truth. But how wise it is to be like those who have manifested a fine spirit! For instance, when an elder who had served for years in Central America was deleted, he said: "It hurts me very much to have lost the privilege that I have treasured for so long. But I am going to work hard in whatever way the brothers want to use me and work to recover my privileges of service." In time, this brother was privileged to serve as an elder again.

If you were deleted as an elder or as a ministerial servant, then, maintain a humble spirit. Avoid a bitter attitude that would disqualify you for future privileges. A godly spirit wins respect. Instead of becoming discouraged, reflect on how Jehovah is blessing your ministry or your household. Build your family up spiritually, visit the sick, and encourage the weak. Above all, cherish your privilege of praising God and proclaiming the good news as one of Jehovah?s Witnesses.?Psalm 145:1, 2; Isaiah 43:10-12.

A certain elder made a serious mistake and lost his privilege of oversight in the congregation. "When the announcement was made about my removal as an elder, I thought that the brothers would feel uncomfortable in my company," he says. "Nevertheless, the elders kept the reason strictly confidential and went out of their way to give me encouragement. The rest of the congregation likewise extended love and companionship, which definitely promoted my spiritual recovery."

I would wager there is some jealousy in the local body of elders. Someone thought that by removing him there were advantages to themselves. This is a good way to yank someone out. The CO. Find something on the CO or threaten to do so.

At the time that I got deleted ( Or resigned as an elder, depending on how one viewed it) My only friend on the body of elders also got deleted over a matter in his family. This was really a conscience issue, on which he exercised parental discretion

He had written up, and received a personal letter from the Society. The letter rambled and did not give a right or wrong decisiion and ended saying it was a conscience matter. The rest of the body would not let it rest .. The C/o sided with them and he was deleted for not following Society's counsel . When I pressed the c/o he ummed and ah'ed, but admitted that in the Society's view, elders were not allowed to have a conscience but must always be examples to the flock

He appealed and we all attended a Special Committee set up by the Society. I have never been to a meeting like it. It was like a serious magistrate's court, The chairman would allow us to speak only when directed by himself. We both said later that it was evident from the beginning that their mind had been made up against him from the beginning

He says he is happier as a non appointed publisher.. This all happened in the mid 90's.

I hope that Minimus's friend might start to see the light.

Thank you so much Blues Brother for more "fly on the wall" insider information on a special kangaroo court of Jehovah's Witnesses.

    Just what the doctor ordered!
