The Bible Students as a Healthy Alternative

For some exiting JW's, they are "true believers" as far as some of the key doctrines of the WTBTS are concerned, but they feel trapped in an organization that seems far removed from its original principles.

Do you think the Bible Students are a relatively healthy alternative to the WTS machine?

So who are they? An off-shoot of the WTS?

How funny, the witnesses brag that any "schism" soon dies off... because it does not have "Jehoober's spirit"...

I thought that the JWs were an off-shoot of the original "Bible Students" founded by C.T. Russell.

Many of the core teachings are the same. They are a variety of independent groups...there is no "organization" as with the WTS. Many left at various times, the first group in 1909 over the "new creation" doctrine. Many left when Rutherford seized control. Some follow Russell's teachings very closely (conservative) and other groups resemble mainstream Christian groups (liberal). I have visited a more liberal group.

You might find this URL helpful. I have a Bible Student CD that I use in my research.

They retain the teachings of Russell that the current WTS has discarded.

There are at least 40 to 50 groups in the US and groups overseas.

Yes I do thus far anyway, that is if they don't condon shunning, let me know if they do. I went to the web site it sounds good to me, if I can find more about it, about shunning and Christmas (Christmas I love) then I will go to their convention.

Someone on another post implied that the B.S.'s were treated almost like brothers and sisters in his congo. What is the WTS's official stance on these people? I thought they were considered the "evil slave class" and to be avoided.

I think its fascinating to read their case against the WTS on their websites. In any case, I think it would be interesting to get a JW to sit down and discuss the WTS with a B.S. Since the difference isn't doctrinal, what could the JW really object to about the B.S. except over the concepts regarding the F.D.S. and the organization? Most JWs think that their doctrines are completely different than anyone else's, and consider this to be proof that the WTS is God's sole organization.

But if they believe the old Russell teachings, then do they still believe the *crazy* pyramids and aluminium nonsense?

    Oh, there are doctrinal differences.

One, there perception of the great crowd is different.

Two, many groups celebrate birthdays and Christmas.

Three, they don't push door to door work.

Four, chronology....1874 rather than 1914 as to Jesus' presence, for example

Five, judicial matters are held with the whole congregation present and by a vote from the congregation (in some it is by secret ballot, others through public voting)
