Isn't RR a Bible Student? If I remember correctly, he is one of their speakers at conventions and does some historical writing for them.
By the way...............where has RR been? It's quite awhile since he posted here.

Great links, Blondie.
I figure the Bible Students could be a good alternative for Witnesses who no longer slavishly follow the FDS, but still follow the other core teachings of the WTS.
I thought they were considered the "evil slave class" and to be avoided.
M.J., when was the last time the WTBTS had an article about the Bible Students? If these old warnings are decades old, perhaps current exiting JW's and narrowly escaping "studies" wouldn't even shrug over considering them as an alternative to the WTBTS.
The JWs consider the Bible Students as the "evil slave class." Be that as it may, they are nonetheless basically JWs without all the organizationalism. Why go for another sect? Why not read the New Testament by yourself, and read the writings of the Early Church Fathers from 90 to 300 A.D.? Doing that, you'll find out what the early apostolic church actually believed, and once you've done that, no other sect or cult can ever fool you again. God bless and have a great day! Love, Jaypeeto
Five, judicial matters are held with the whole congregation present and by a vote from the congregation (in some it is by secret ballot, others through public voting)
Say a member is found guilty by the congregation are they then shunned?
Good thought, Jaypeeto, and I am closer to that thinking myself. There are a certain number of JW's, though, who may be hanging back in the organization because they do believe the doctrine, but are sick of the organization.
I'm all for freedom and choice.
I figure this might be an alternative for some folks.
Rather than have me read the Bible Students information and try and interpret it here, there is a forum where you can ask questions and have them answered by a real Bible Student.

RR got fed up and left. He felt that he was being attacked too much.

Do I think it is a healthy alternative??
No, but,,maybe slightly less unhealthy than the JW/WT,, it all depend on how weird thier teachings are. In reality it's all bull shit anyway ,, one may just be less authoritarian and so less harmful. But it doesn't change the fact that it's still all bull shit.
last june when i was first trying to leave the wtbs i met up with bible students in milwaukee. i went to several meetings with them. actually, before that even i had been checking out their websites and e-mailing them. i came into contact with 1 local "brother" via e-mail and we talked many times. it was actually quite beneficial to me to help me exit because when i was in meetings with the elders i told them i wasnt in agreement with the whole notion of 1 small group (governing body) being the "faithful and discreet slave". i told them i had met another group who showed love, believed pretty much the same things and met together regularly and were worldwide. it pretty much shot down all the objections they could bring up. i think they were befuddled quite frankly. i don't think they could understand who it could be who i was talking about because of course jw's are taught all bible students are gone. of course, because i would be attending meetings outside of the dubs they still wanted to da me. i dodged them for a bit until it became more advantagous for me to da myself. i still went to bible student meetings for a little bit and enjoyed myself somewhat but soon saw many problems again. plus, i was doing additional research on the side and became agnostic. i no longer attend. yes, "rr" is a bible student. i pm'd with him as well and was on his bible student forum for a little while. he's a good guy.

What's so "healthy" about this sect? Charles Taze Russell was no better than Minimus. In fact, Minimus is even better!
