Dave listens to me, looks right at me, but I know he isn't hearing a word I say. Later, he insists I never said what I did say.
He also tries to figure out what I mean by what I'm saying. Sometimes, it's not a big deal, I am saying exactly what I mean, with no hidden, needing-to-be-interpreted, meaning.

Craigs arse is in deep doo cuz he tries to anylize evrything and he's always trying to solve Kate's problems instead of just being quiet and "listening" to her. Men try to fix things when all women want is someone who will listen and show they understand....without saying anything. Just nod and look real concerned.

Kate has very few problems for the Craigster to solve, you see I'm smart enough to solve them myself and when I share my problems with him I've already solved them and am just telling him what I did about whatever and how appreciative I am of him giving me the gift of trust in knowing I will do the right and the best thing for both of us.
My man is a listener, don't let him fool ya! He just saw that bumper sticker today and got a kick out of it. One of our greatest joys in our marriage is that we listen non judgmentally and genuinely share deep respect and compassion for each other.

Hmmmmm...now there's something we can get our teeth into! Are you suggesting that women say things that they don't mean? Or, perhaps, just perhaps, that women mean things that they don't say?
