OK, Iv'e got a question about Evolution......and excuse me but I've now had 3 glasses of reeeeeaaaallly good vino ........ anyhoo, if we came from apes, then why the hell are there still apes around but no ape-men?? And if we wer'ent created, then why do all ancient cultures have stories about God or "gods" visiting man thousands of years ago? Surely this wud be too much of a coincidence for all cultures to come up with the same idea??

I'm no biologist, and what I know about evolution would fill most of the back of a matchbook, but the general answer is, 'Because apes are good in their environment, and men are good in their environment'. Ape-men wouldn't be as good as apes in the ape environment, nor would they do as well as men in the men environment. So in competition for the resources of the environment, the ape-men wouldn't win.

Along the lines of a combination soup spoon and garden shovel. If such a thing were on the market, it wouldn't sell. Too big for soup, too small for gardening. As a product, it would die out as the more specialized spoons and shovels took over.

Again, no expert here. That's a general take on it. But don't dismiss evolution without reading a decent book or two on the subject. I read something by Richard Dawkins, The Blind Watchmaker I believe it was called. He explains it well, but he takes his sweet time doing it. And he's quite arrogant. I guess I don't recommend this book, but if you can't find anything else, it does explain the evolutionist's side of things from at least his viewpoint.

Here's something by Sheldrake on the matter:

AA: So in competition for the resources of the environment.

Ultimately, in the competition for resources the humans win every time in every environment we've ever encountered. It may take a minute or two, geologically speaking, but history shows we tend to figure out very ingenious ways to survive as a species in almost all circumstances.

My money is on the man to kick the ape's a- ... well, you get the idea. In my opinion, without any attempt to take away from the thoughts of others, people who say, "Why is the ape still here?" aren't looking far enough ahead and asking the more important question: "Will the ape continue to be here?" The likely answer given our history as a species, is no.

    OS,

I sure hope we stop causeing species to go extinct,, we hurt our selve very bad to do this we must respect our geting here and honor the others not human. Does that sound spiritual??

Unfortunately, you're right. And it doesn't even have to be about survival. If they're in the way of a new Wal-Mart, my money's on Wal-Mart.

I agree frankie. It was the same in the European Dark and Middle Ages and other cultures in times past, no honor for other life forms. I think the worst part about the wastefulness of life in our society is the lack of respect for life it engenders. Human life is also devalued by that lack of respect.

In my opinion, your perspective is both spiritual and logical.

edit: Or it could just be that ... self-rolled cigarette ... you just smoked. I dunno for sure which.

Written by evolutionists to illustrate evolution. Well it certainly would be a poor programming project if it didn't then wouldn't it!

It is true that the theory of evolution make's no distinction of intelligent design or non intelligent design. That is a metaphysical question unanswered,, but maybe felt intuitively,,more than logical facts can reason.

"And as you can see, Gentleman, the program behaves precisely as we predicted it would." [polite golf clap]
