I was there. I also vividly remember the release of the 1966 "Life Everlasting in Freedom of the Sons of God" novel that Fred Franz wrote. It had that infamous chart showing the end of 6,000 of man's existence in the fall of 1975.

Don't let any newer dubs tell you that 1975 was no big deal and that the society didn't strongly suggest that 1975 was THE date for the beginning of the millenium. Anyone who lived through those years and who is not in denial will tell you such people are liars.

    Farkel and others,

You're right, Fred Frenz's book started the 1975 ball rolling. During a talk at the Farm (in the early '70s) Fred stated that the end of the system would probably start in 1974. It's amusing hearing young dubs say the Watchtower never pointed to 1975--there is none so blind as those who refuse to see.

To me today, 1975 is not really important. 1914 and 607 are not important. Ghosts and Gods and religion are really not important either. To me, what's important is how do people treat me and how do they treat people who are important to me. That's my test. I judge it all by how they treat you and how they treat me.

All of us who were Witnesses in the 60's and 70's know what really happened. Many of us like me, are shunned because we don't deny the reality of our own experiences. That's okay, see paragraph above.

The Society showed the first real signs of back pedaling in June 1975 when the WT mag came out. Deeply distressed, I pointed it out to one of the Annointed friends of Knorr and asked , after all these years, why not wait until October. He scowled and said he was dissapointed in me. I stressed that It was hurting me to see them backing up and not waiting until October. (How could they have been so certain for so many years and not wait until October? ) At that point this highly respected remnant of Christ's brothers shouted " Satan's got you, ohhh he's got you". After pointing he turned and hurridly walked away, I was weeping. This was my first direct contact with God's Kingdom under the rulership of his Chosen Ones, Heavenly Elders, Spiritual Israel, The New Jerusalem, The Bride Class, The Anti-Typical Levitical Priesthood.... I reached out . The highest authority on Earth responded.

The first signs of big time back pedalling came with the 1974 year text. "If the fig tree fails to bloom . . . "

It was plain for me to see what that meant after all the years of hype we had just come through.

Wasn't the Big Convention in Vancouver, Canada in 1968 an 8 day'er? Man that one was long. I had sunburnt knees! AND I remember the moon walk from the lousy TV reception in our hotel room in Burnaby.

No it was 1969, and it was an 8 day one. Princess was born the next November. We were camping on the Washington side of the border, and had to commute a long way each day. It was so tiring. I remember coming back one night and the people camped a few places down from us had a TV in their trailer. They positioned it so people standing outside could watch, and we watched the moon landing and walk. That was cool.

I sure was! And as the rest of those here that were in the WTS back then....the hype and the urgency of telling everyone you could about it...was very real.

I think that's part of the reason that my parents disowned me when I got baptized, I'd talk about the END and I wanted so much for them to understand! I figured I had nothing to lose (silly me) by urging them to study and be "saved", because I WAS convinced that the WTS---I mean the bible---was right so when it DID hit, they would forgive me!

When I went to my first assembly, I believe it was only five days, but it did get out at 9:00 PM. (In I think 1970)

Yeah, for the whole thing from '72 on. Wife was pregnant in '75. That daughter of mine is now 29 and expecting her 2nd child. Life's great ain't it? Remember the DO stating from the platform, what many will think if we ever get to 12/31/75.
