We had the same shite introduction by the CO in my old hall a few years back with the same sigh of relief from the eager beaver dub section located at the front of the hall. What a sick, sick, sick trick.

The fact that the majority of the people in that hall felt dread and fear was because they had given the WTS full control of their mind which allowed such a ridiculas statement to even find a moment's consideration.

Spot on...totally agree with you on this point U/C

I don't see what this big fuss is about. After all, lying, manipulating, abusing and scaring God's creatures by lying, manipulating, abusing and scary assholes is all "Bible-Based(tm)".

Yes, this sort of fake anecdotal story used to make me angry also. Trying to drum up emotion over something that didn't really happen really gets me. On a somewhat related note: I used to get really pissed off at the book studies when they would point to a picture in the book and comment on it as if it were an actual photograph taken by an eyewitness in the first century! As though they had camcorders back then! LHG

They STILL do that all the time. They sincerely act as if the pictures are real.

He said he had an announcement from the governing body and that their had been a law passed that day which banned JW'S in the UK that the USA and other world governments had notified the WTS that they were to follow suit shortly.

Imagine if anyone else raised their hand to make a comment and made this remark. You would be severely counselled for spreading false rumours. But hey..it's ok if the CO does it.

Yes, I remember the same scenario. Sick practical joke which goes wrong in the minds of all the silent, frightened, and now anxious r&f. What a diabolical way to rock those (me too, then) emotionally controlled people's world! How embarrasing to have ever been associated with people who use such tactics. Must have been a great ego builder for those control freaks!

    What a jerk!

However, I think any logical thinking person would know that JW's aren't (news-wise anyway) the "You've heard it here first" crowd. However, I think the person or persons who devised this talk outline should of considered all the kids who would of been scared shitless after hearing such a scary remark. For a JW child, It's like saying your mom died, the boogeyman is coming to get you, or there's someone under the bed. An effective way to get a point across....but waaaaayyyy off base for them to do it. If I was in the audience when this happened I would of stood up and smacked him.

I wonder what his reaction would have been if you had yelled "BULLSH*T" at the top of your lungs then started laughing really loud... I'll bet you'd have been marked for sure!
