i thought the "generation that saw 1914" was sacrosanct in the witness world. Even thought I didnt hear about it until I was out 10 years in 2000 it still gobsmacked me.
I always thought that whatever new light the organisation came up with this was untouchable.
The nail in the coffin for me I'm afraid

Well, mine's not there...no real love in the congregation....there are individuals that truly love as Jesus did, but the overall climate is one of suspicion, jealousy, deception. Several years and congregations later, I find it hard to believe that these are the people that will survive and build a paradise. So I carry on and watch my back.

I am in the same situation as Joelbear and Blondie, although I did check off "actions of officials and elders" since it was the closest.
I, too, got very discouraged by the lack of love, since brotherly love and caring were said by Jesus to be the distinguishing marks of the true religion. I spent a lot of time blaming myself for being concerned about the imperfections of the brothers, but eventually it just became overwhelming and I had to admit that the JW religion did NOT exhibit the love that Jesus spoke about.

First doctrinal doubt: I realized I could see no basis in the Bible for belief that anyone would not die the human death as a price of sin. Proceeded to 'wait on Jehovah', but this seeded the initial doubt that God was revealing 'His' plan through the Watchtower.
What finally convinced?
No one certain thing. It was an accrual of issues over several years, both doctrinal and policy, which seemed to get worse with time 'waiting on Jehovah'. Probably what it boiled down to was the emphasis of organization over scripture while denying it. It was just too obvious, and kept getting more so. Disfellowshipping people - essentially casting them off as damned - for wimsical organizational reasons rather than scriptural reasons weighed heavily. The final straw came when it appeared a sister who had tried hard to measure up, finally left an abusive marriage, and was destined for disfellowshipping over it. That moment is one in my life that stands out. -

Fantastic poll Simon!
After reading through the first section, 'What first made you doubt?' I was kinda hoping to see an 'All of the above' option.
Interesting that no single issue has predominated here.
[Why is it though Simon that the first set of options add up to over 180%?]

Yes JW72, I can have a box to enter free-text and then show the top 5 entries etc... (but not quite finished that bit yet []}
You can tell it's my 'new toy' can't you VeniceIT ... a poll on every post I make ?
The first options can add up to more than 100% because you can vote for multiple questions nicolaou. ie. it should be read that 25% of people found the 607 chronology made them doubt and 11% also had doubts about the blood (ie. not exclusive). The second (single choice) question should add up to 100% (although it may be 99%/101% due to rounding etc...)
