On a the ExMormon board I started a topic about Fear of the Organisation (link below). 'Stumped' put up this idea...

In America, founded on freedom, folks are afraid to discuss their church. It's loterally scary.
Anybody wanna take a challenge tostate their name, address, phone number. If we all did they could not get around to getting us all. And the attempt to investigate 1,000's of folks would be a PR nightmare, so they wouldn't. Think about it. All on board post name, address, phone number and say, OK make your play - the TBM spouses, bishoprice be damned. It would work if in unison.

It really could work with Mormons as they are so centred geographically, Utah. Do you think it could work for dubs, say in california or UK?

    Hey Philo,

Just out of curiousity - what would stop someone unscrupulous - like me - from not putting my stats, but my pioneer sister-in-law stats up on the net?

Could actually be some strange times, eh?

    philo,

not only what waiting said, but also, what if one feels they are putting other [never been a cult follower] members of their family in danger?

I remember once getting an obscene phone call. Just the one. It made me feel so violated in my own home. I was sick at heart and nervous for weeks, because it came at a time when I had three young children and my husband was frequently out of town on business. (And I even yelled at the sucker to back off and not EVER call me again -- which he didn't) And I still was badly shaken!

While I understand that this is one ex-Mormon's way of trying to deal with an admittedly unfair, unjust and burdensome lack of religious freedom, I think it ill-advised.

Hi Waiting: we don't hear much from you, hope you're doing well.

what would stop someone unscrupulous - like me - from not putting my stats, but my pioneer sister-in-law stats up on the net?

Good point, but we could possibly get round it.

Say there are two sites. Site 1 is secured and takes the name, address, social security number, and a credit card number for a nominal handling charge, and sends a form letter by snail mail to the person's house. They have to sign the letter and return it before their name is forwarded to Site 2.

Site 2 interrogates the data. There would be a policy for geographical outing, whereby no names appear on the site until a certain density of names-population ratio is achieved in an area. This would hopefully prevent disfellowshippings if and when this site publishes the names.

Hi Outnfree: Yes, but I'm not suggesting anything rash, it would have to be initiated by individuals, verified, and revokable should people change their minds after the data is taken.

    NET POWER.

    How am I doing?

you will put your SS# & CC# on the net???? and that is not rash?

If we all did they could not get around to getting us all.

oh ya? well it might take a few but thay could get everyone and hard. these are not nice people, thay have a LOT of computer power and braking the law don't bother them.

the ideas and opinions expressed in this post do not necessiarly represent those of the WTB&TS inc. or any of it's subsidiary corporations.

Willy: Your concerns about Interbet security are noted, but they are not the concerns of millions of people who purchase online day in day out.

I admit I have no expertise in this area, but unless you have some specific points to make I must assume neither do you have any.

Are you saying that all the 'secure sites' on the net are unsecure? I'm interested.

Also, opinions and policies, even laws, CAN be changed by such action as I am talking about. For example, Gay rights.

Hi Philo: The reason I have not given out my name, address, and phone number is that I love to keep WTS trolls guessing, and in the unlikely event that some crack-pot - perhaps a JW - living in my area decided to vandalize me in someway.

Also, contrary to popular opinion, Mormons are not as centered in Utah as they once were. Idaho and eastern Washington actually have higher percentages of Mormons. At one time Idaho was 80% Mormon. As the LDS church sent out missions and Mormons have migrated around the country and the world, they are everywhere like the JWs, except that they have a higher ratio in the USA. - Amazing

The action could use the media too, so that names are forwarded to local papers and TV before the date of publication to get public interest and shame the org into inaction.

Amazing: Still there are high densities of Mormons, unfortunately far higher than you find with JWs.

About keeping trolls guessing: yes, but many would rather be treated as human beings by their former friends and family, no doubt you would too.

    Philo,

Well I dont give a toss who knows who I am! It's all in the email address anyway.

Having said that I would never divulge anyone elses identity, the pic of my barbie posted under "Englishman has a bigger..." was scrupulously checked by me so that the ex-dubs and Dub-in-the-pub were not revealed.

    Englishman.

..... fanaticism masquerading beneath a cloak of reasoned logic.
