    Englishman,

That reminds me of a favorite poster:

I just read Macarthy's essay, what a MONSTER. As you said, well worth reading. Thanks.

I don't get the humour in the poster. It's NOT funny. I have a coat just like that and a rather fetching beard which I wag and stroke in public. So who's laughing? not me. (Ya see I've taken the disobedience training already)

I haven't read the whole thread, but I've read the first part and maybe I missed it.

What is the point of all this?

You're suggesting we all I.D. ourselves? I'm guessing, Philo, that you've not worked with the general public very much have you? Philo, there are some really crazy, really disturbed, really nutty, really DANGEROUS people out there. There are more Jeffery Dahmers, more Charles Mansons, more (and real) Hannibal Lecters, more Wayne Gacys, more McVeighs, Susan Smiths, than you can shake a stick at.

Someone off-ed Chandra Levy, and I'm betting it wasn't Condit. There are already 130 missing persons - people who disappeared without a trace - in Washington, D.C. this year alone!

I hate to say it Philo, but the general public is NUTS, many criminally so. Not everyone is as normal, loving, trustworthy, kind, generous, and compassionate as you and me; and I'm not too sure about you.

They ain't gonna get my real name and number. Remember the guy who, when asked if the Watchtower came out in a study article and said for all JWs to arm themselves and show up at a time certain at the nearest Catholic church and open fire on the congregation, said he surely would? Said he didn't believe it would ever happen, but if it did, he would? And remember, religion isn't a function of the rational mind; religion is a function of the emotions, and people out there are sick, sick, sick. Why there are JWs who think that if you're DFed, you should be executed - save Jehovah the trouble.

I'm tellin' ya man, this is a bad idea.

Where it is a duty to worship the Sun you can be sure that a study of the laws of heat is a crime.

    Mommy PLEASE edit your post.

There are a lot of freaks and weirdos that lurk on the net. the last thing you want to do is to give out your name and address and phone number.

It just isn't safe to do that. The least of my worries is Brooklyn.

    Only cuz I care.

Wendy, You know I love ya, but do your little ones play outdoors by themselves? It's one thing to provide this information to your friends
via email but I have to agree with Francoise, this is a bad idea.

Been there and done that, Philo. If anyone here... or in the WTBTS... wants to reach me, all they need do is ask. I've nothing to hide... but a LOT to 'expose'.

    Peace to you, dear one!

    Francoise,

Good points about elements of the general public. Would you still think it was a bad idea if groups of JWs and/or apostates 'outed' themselves simultaneously with letters to the elders? That would cut
    out the public.

You asked what the point of all this is.

What about all the people who presently neither lurk nor post, who are simply miserable in the organisation? Also, this could be a long term project, a way to connect to the silent dissent among JWs and even other cults. It could work in conjunction with, and inform individuals and the media of the conditions within the WT organisation.

For a given area, for example, it could publish numbers of JWs who:

    1) disagree on specific policies
    2) would like to leave their religion but can't because they will be shunned
    3) are prepared to out themselves at some point

As the numbers climb (if they do) interest would develop, and this would encourage more subscribers. Of course low numbers like yours could even discourage them to do so, but at least they would have information about the extent of dissent in their area to help them decide.

How often do we hear of people sending their letter of disassociation and regretting it, wishing they had played it differently, or of people who wished they had sent a letter? People leave hoping their friends will follow, sometimes this happens, most times it does not. For all these people information is at a minimum.

To know that in your vicinity there are a number of brothers who are likely to be sympathetic to your disagreements could help many make the leap as individuals, never mind collective outing.

I am offering variuations on the 'outing' project, I know, but what is at the heart of it practically, as I now envisage it, is providing verified information to JWs and the media.

    philo

You have taken issue with the idea of general publication because of crackpots, are you opposed to the idea of collective 'outing' per se. Just wondering exactly what you mean by 'bad'. Is it the collective/(commun)ity approach you doubt?
