LMAO... I told a friend if I woke up with the King in my bed like that.. someone would be going to the hospital. That man or thing freaks me OUT! I could imagine the news.."Good morning folks, well the King, from the Burger King Ads was hospitalized today.. beaten senseless by a woman who awoke with him in her bed. Police are charging the BK King with breaking and entering with the intent of assault with a food product. More news to come."

The one that cracks me up the most is the Diet Dr. Pepper commerical. The woman is on a date and this guy is yammering about himself.. she gets the drink sips it. An from then all she hears out of this man's mouth is "phenomenon" and the other people in the restaurant chorus with "doot do dee doo doot" every time you hear phenomenon.

Talk about tuning someone out! lol.

    X.

There's one series that cracks me up, something about people coming to wrong conclusions.

Guy in the cooking knocks over the tomato sauce, makes a big mess, the cat gets in it, he picks up the cat, and when his girlfriend comes through the door he's holding the cat in one hand, a knife in the other and it looks like blood everywhere.

In the other one guy in mini-mart says "you're being robbed" to his friend on the cell phone and gets the Korean couple running the place beat the crap out of him.

I can't for the life of me remember what they're selling.

I think the movies today (Preston takes a deep breath) stink to high heaven!!!

Actually, I really think cinema is dead...very rarely nowadays do I see any movies which take any sort of real risk in terms of depth of story, characters, style, most of the movies I see seem to take a very non-threatening middle ground, and then you realize that what you're watching is really just a copy of another film, becuase they saw that the best way to market a successful film was to imitate the original as closely as possible.... Horror films fascinate me because even very well made ones have the challenge of getting over the hump fo a large segment of critics who are predisposed to giving that genre a bad review. Every two years one film amazes the heck out of me. But I think only about 6 or 7 in the past five years (Ghost Dog, Mulholland Drive, Hedwig and the Angry Inch for example) have really impressed me. But gone are the days of Kieslowski, Tarkovsky, Dryer..... Interestingly Prophecor, I think the commercials nowadays are amazing and some of the best in history. I've seen some really good photography in some truck and beer commercials...dancing Gecko and product placements non-withstanding...

What are some things in American Culture, or the culture of your life where you live, that makes you think we as humans have totally lost it

    Evangelical megachurches

Here's a link to one of the biggest ones in the whole USA, and world for that matter, not far from where I live:

They aren't on TV too much, but I can't stand the "Check in to Cash" commercials. Also all the debt consolidation commercials. the people who run these businesses are the scum of the earth. they prey on people who already can't afford day to day stuff, then get them in even deeper. Many debt consolidation home loans are the equivalant of taking your home to a pawn shop...hawking it, and then fighting to pay the vig on the note. It's endorsed extortion and loan sharking.

Okay, the king creeps me out too...and the cavemen make me laugh

As to movies....I don't pay all that much attention to the newest coming attractions but look and listen to other good referrals on indy films. I saw a good one the other day called "What Alice Found"...it was on IFC or sundance or one of those channels. It turned out pretty good.

The King commercials freak me out too! Weird!

The Geico gecko commercials are lame. But the cavemen commercials are funny. I love it when that one goes, "What the heck is that supposed to mean?" LOL

The furniture/used car commercials annoy me too. Hurt my ears.

And of course I hate the ones that scream at you, "NATIONWIDE WAREHOUSE! UNBELIEVABLE PRICES! COME IN NOW!" It makes me want to go over there, casually look around, and when a salesman approaches me, scream, "DOES THIS COME IN LEATHER?!? WHEN CAN IT BE DELIVERED?!?"

    LMAO! Too funny!

What about all the drug company comercials?

Yes I'd like to ease the pain in my carpal tunnel. What, you say? I can do that with TransoLigease? Wow! I feel great, and the only side effects are Constipation, followed by diarhea and loss of bladder control. It is SO worth it. :::Legal-ese; Some individuals may also experience having a testicle grow in to a fetus, their gall bladder swallow their liver, or their tongue grow teeth. If you experience auditory hallucinations while driving, see your Dr., as this is a sign of a rare but serious side effect.

I think many of the comercials are funny and creative, but I know that the crap they're trying to sell me; I don't need. ((I love the movie Fight Club, just for that idea))

I think too, that when the methods used are more "Shrill" in a marketing sense--"You must get this!" that it is probably not only something you don't need, but it may not even be good for you.

phenomenon" and the other people in the restaurant chorus with "doot do dee doo doot" every time you hear phenomenon.

I think this was from an old skit on the Muppet Show. Kermit would say "phenomenon" and these critters would pop out of no-where and dance.

I agree with Preston, movies suck. I hate movies and music that are "Product". I think that we are all dumber for it.

My favorite comercial is the Dont Judge Too Quickly ones. The guy in the kitchen holding a knife and a cat by the scruff, with spaghetti sauce all over the floor. Make me run to pee every time.

I also like the PSP commercial with the guy morphing into different people until he sits down, and the music is that Franz Ferdinand song. One of the morphed characters is a guy in drag shooting a gun. Funny.

by the way, there is NO way in hell that i'd let anything from burger king pass these lips, but i appreciate the king's concern for satisfying my morning hunger.

BK will be sorry to hear that, because you're the demographic they were going after with that cheesenormous sammich.

I've been working in an advertising agency for about 11 years now, ticking off my life in 15-minute increments, "designing" direct mail pieces that go directly from your mailbox to your trashcan. I throw my own work away every time I check the mail. The highlight of my year thus far was cloning a hair out of a photo of a giant fried fish sandwich. Oh, and last week, I almost convinced the creative director to use the headline, "Hey, Mom, grab this!" on the [insert name of popular fried chicken chain here] Mother's Day piece. Stay tuned... something FREE (sorry, reflex) will be in your mailbox tomorrow.

    You're welcome.
