Its amazing how many guys get upset when they think 'YOU are not prepared". so I understand the free condoms if money is tight.

as far as the needle exchange, until today, I had never heard of one. I guess I have been living in a closet

Needles exchanges don't work. Addicts should be rounded into institutions and drug dealers shot. Period. Let's take the Singaporean apporach, I mean, we've already lost our democracy.

Needle exchanges do work in reducing the spread of infection and research indicates that there is not an increase in intravenous drug use where an exchange is available. See the Report on the Global HIV/AIDS epidemic, June 2000 courtesy of UNAIDS.

    Abbadon,

Actually, free contraception is the best value money you can spend on welfare. A modest outlay prevents unlimited potential expenditure. But I'm just a pinko-commie European.

lol...I am an ex-Southern European, dabbling Socialist, even more unpopular these days.

Apart from the social advantages of handing around free condoms for which I accept is very much needed, especially for high risk groups such as those exposed to HIV from needle use and prostitution, I am more puzzled at the self-respect of a sexual partner who does not fall into this category and who cannot front a few bob to buy a condom for a partner they want to bed.

The days of chivalry it seems, are well and truly over.....lol

    Still want my money back.

What kind of men do you chose to sleep with who expect *you* to be the one prepared to accept their sex and to have to pay for, or stand in line to receive free condoms as part of the deal?

The first thing you should do when you meet a man is to ask if he can afford a condom. If he answers 'yes', then you know he has real class and will likely not belch when he is in the middle of sex-making.

lol H_S, to tell the truth, I haven't been there for a couple of years. Sad, but true. Unfortunately, my ex and I did live in poverty due to illness, so 10 bux a week for condoms was a big expense, as pathetic as that sounds. Of course, if one only uses them on the rare occasion, they would pose no financial burden.

Yes, I'm pretty open, but have nothing to be ashamed of. If I can share a little bit of the experience I have learned over the years, I'm happy to do so.

And you want your money back? Sorry, man, I don't give refunds!

    the_classicist,

Please copy your posts and save them on disc, so you can have a chuckle over them a few years hence, when you come down to earth and realize you are lucky to have been born in Canada.

Buy a load of sterile needles et. al. of suitable sizes and type, and a sharps box for disposing of used needles. Then set up a needle exchange at City Hall. You will get you far better press, and be far more annoying to City Hall, which will lead to faster action.

AND there is no risk of those at risk being harmed.

... oh, and I do realise it is quite unlikely an addict will come to City Hall (or the steps outside if inside isn't possible -

    Nonsense, Abaddon,

In Victoria, B.C., the same province orbison has this percieved problem, the Nurses needle exchange is directly across the street from City Hall. Hasn't limited their delivery of services one single bit.

Additionally, the Victoria needle exchange is surrounded by thriving busineses, including the highly tourist oriented Gate of Chinatown. Immediately beside the needle exchange, a successful hair salon, around the corner, a quaint old building with a law office and architechs.

So, let me get this straight --- wealthy guys don't belch? Holy smoke, the lifestyles of the rich and famous!

Does this mean that they don't, you know, ahem, expel gas? Come on, I don't believe that for a second. You are just making fun of me!

    lol,,, H_S!

To put all joking aside though, there are real poor people on this board. Being poor does not equate to being low-class. At least, it's not supposed to, but since I have been on disability, I have learned the hard lesson that classicism does exist. Folks look down on you if you go to the food bank, or the needle exchange to get free condoms. Real poverty is not funny, and hard hard hard to live with. I'm sure no one here believes they look down on folks because of their circumstances, but I would beg to differ.

"As dog is my witless, I'll never go condom-less again! Because tomorrow is, another day!"

    orbison,

Who is telling you that you're business is gone in a month if a needle exchange happens to open up near you?

Have you had any sort of meeting with the people who will actually run the exchange, attempted to determine their level of professionality? To understand the services they intend to provide?

Have you enquired as to the success or failure of similar programs and their effect on local business, or are you letting other interests just jerk you around?

If you are a downtown business, do you not think addicts live outside your door already? Do you not think it is better that there is a service for their general health and other specific needs than going without?

At the very least, any slightly insightful person should be able to see that an exchange program results in less discarded needles.

If you look into it, that is the very least of the beneficial services such a program will provide.

    Eric
