The saddest song you've ever heard

This is a lullaby my Mother would sing to us on the way home from the Kingdom Hall late at night. I remember one night having my head (I was seven) on my little brother's shoulder. He was 3. We were crashed out in the back seat of our 1967 Ford, on the way home. The world was covered with snow outside, and mother had the heat going in our car. There was a soft green light emanating from the instrument panel in the front. Somehow it was all very comforting and soothing. We were flopped out after the meeting all over the back seat. I was looking up at the sky through the window of the car. It was a beautiful blue moon. She started singing in her low voice:
Oh don't you remember? A long time ago?
Some poor little babes, whose names we don't know.
Were stolen away, on a bright winter's day,
And LOST IN THE WOODS,
So we hear people say!
They cried, and they cried,
And they laid down and died.
Poor babies in the woods, poor babies in the woods!
And when it was morn, the robins so red,
Took strawberry leaves, and over them spread!
They sang sweet songs, the whole morning long
Poor babies in the woods, poor babies in the woods!
And then little brother would just start bawling! I would hold his head on my lap and cry cuz he was so sad. Later, he died when he was 21. I'll never forget that. It was the saddest song of my life.. mostly cuz my little brother cried.

I love that song by the Judds.. it tears me up! My grandfather was born in 1911, and he's still alive. I had a JW Mom, and an absent Father, so my Grandfather was the only male role model that I could relate to as I spent a lot of time with him. He was a good strong man, and he took care of and loved his family and raised them right. He was a farmer and my love of animals and the land came from him. He still alive, 94 and still going to the Sr. Citizen's Center and playing pool everyday, driving his Ford Taurus like a bat outta hell, and has a new girlfriend! <grandma died a few years back> He's my hero.

I've got two! The lyrics are great but you have to hear the way they are done.
I'm a grown man but get a lump in my throat everytime I hear these.
A Lot of Things Different
Kenny Chesney
I'd of spent a lot more time in the pouring rain
without an umbrella coverin my head
And I'd have stood up to that bully when he pushed
and called me names, but I was too afraidAnd I'd have gone and saw Elvis that night he came to town
But momma said I couldn't
And I'd have went skinny dippin with Jenny Carson
that time she dared me to, but I didn'tO I, I'd done a lot of things different
I wish I'd have spent more time with my dad when he was alive
Now I don't have the chanceAnd I wish I had told my brother how much I love him
before he went off to war, But I just shook his hand
I wish I'd have gone to church on Sunday morning when my
grandma begged me to, But I was afraid of God.
And I wish I'd have listened when they said boy
you're gonna wish you hadn't, But I wouldn't
O I, I'd done a lot of things different
People say they wouldn't change a thing
Even if they could
O but I would
There was this red dress she wanted one time so bad she
could taste it I should of bought it, but I didn't
She wanted to paint our bedroom yellow and trim it in
blues and greens, But I wouldn't let her
Wouldn't have hurt nothin'
She loved to be held and kissed and touched
But I didn't do it not nearly enough
And if I'd of know that dance was gonna be our last dance
I'd of asked that band to play on and on, on and on
O I, I'd done a lot of things different
People say they wouldn't change a thing
Even if they could
O but I wouldoo, oo
O I, I'd done a lot of things different
O I, I'd done a lot of thingsI think we'd all do a lot of things differentRemember When
Alan Jackson
Remember when I was young and so were you
And time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when?
Remember when we vowed the vows, and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, and it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when?
Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each others hearts
Remember when?
--- Instrumental ---
Remember when the sound of little feet, was the music we danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we never give it up
Remember when?
Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookin' back, its just a steppin' stone
To where we are
Where we've been
Said we do it all again
Remember when?
Remember when we said when we turn gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when.
Remember when?
Remember when?...My throat is lumpy right now as I read these lyrics.
A lot of Reba McIntyre songs get me too!

I love that song by the Judds.. it tears me up! My grandfather was born in 1911,
I had a good grandfather on my mother's side. I'm so glad you had a wonderful grandfather. I try to be something similar to my own two grandsons.
Remember When: HappyDad, my son downloaded that one and told me that everytime my exhusband (yes, he's JW) hears it, he turns it up and cries. My son asked him one day why he has to be so bitter and nasty all the time. My ex told him that his life did not turn out the way he had planned. Well, being raised a JW didn't help him be a better husband and dad for sure. Now when I listen to that song, I feel empathy for him. It's too bad he didn't appreciate what he had when he could.

Okay, this was freaky ..
Yesterday, I was thinking on this music thread while I went for a walk, and I heard a certain song in my head,,,
"you might lose them one day, someone takes them away, and they can't hear the words you long to say ..."
Yup! It was the same Bread song that you spoke of, and the same time of day you posted it !
I was going to post it, but reading the thread, saw that you already had.
Oy, cool..
Then, this one came to mind ,,,
"I found your diary underneath the trees,
and started reading about me.
The words you'd written took me by surprise, "
Diary ,,, that is another by Bread that can get me every time ,,,
