Beautiful Boy by John Lennon is very poignant, particularly the line "I can hardly wait to see you come of age".

However, my nomination is for Judy Garland singing "The man that got away":

    The night is bitter,
    The stars have lost their glitter;
    The winds grow colder
    And suddenly you're older -
And all because of the man that got away.

    No more his eager call,
    The writing's on the wall;
The dreams you dreamed have all
    Gone astray.

    The man that won you
Has gone off and undone you.
    That great beginning
    Has seen the final inning.
Don't know what happened. It's all a crazy game!

    No more that all-time thrill,
For you've been through the mill -
And never a new love will
    Be the same.

    Good riddance, good-bye!
Ev'ry trick of his you're on to.
But, fools will be fools -
    And where's he gone to?

    The road gets rougher,
    It's lonelier and tougher.
With hope you burn up -
    Tomorrow he may turn up.
There's just no letup the live-long night and day!

    Ever since this world began
    There is nothing sadder than
    A one-man woman looking for
    The man that got away...
    The man that got away.

Seventeen is a beautiful song. It's also very real. I discovered later though, that you could apply it to more than just the ugly duckling girls. The thing is, I knew plenty of very pretty girls who sat at home with no dates. I don't know how it is at most high schools, but at my high school very few people had boyfriends or girlfriends or were dating. In reality, a very small percent of the kids were popular and dated all the time. To the rest of us, it seemed like we, or the group we hung out with were left out of this thriving social scene.

I loved the movie the Breakfast Club because the movie showed that almost all teenagers are miserable. From the wealthy, attractive girl to the scary delinquent boy, almost all suffer from teenaged angst.

    Beth Nielsen Chapman
"Sand and Water" All alone, I didn't like the feeling
All alone, I sat and cried
All alone, I had to find some meaning
In the center of the pain I felt inside

All alone, I came into the world
All alone, I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water, and a million years gone by

I will see you in the light of a thousand suns
I will hear you in the sound of the waves
I will know you when I come, as we all will come,
Through the doors, beyond the grave

All alone, I heal this heart of sorrow
All alone, I raise this child
    Flesh and bone, he's just
    Bursting towards tomorrow
And his laughter fills my world, and wears your smile

All alone, I came into the world
All alone, I will someday die
Solid stone is just sand and water, baby
Sand and water, and a million years gone by

    Angel

spend all your time waiting for that second chance for a break that would make it okay there's always one reason to feel not good enough and it's hard at the end of the day I need some distraction oh beautiful release memory seeps from my veins let me be empty and weightless and maybe I'll find some peace tonight in the arms of an angel fly away from here from this dark cold hotel room and the endlessness that you fear you are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort there so tired of the straight line and everywhere you turn there's vultures and thieves at your back and the storm keeps on twisting you keep on building the lie that you make up for all that you lack it don't make no difference escaping one last time it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees in the arms of an angel fly away from here from this dark cold hotel room and the endlessness that you fear you are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort there you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort here
