All the flowers that you planted, mama
    In the back yard
All died when you went away
I know that living with you baby was sometimes hard
But I'm willing to give it another try
    'Cause nothing compares ...
    Nothing compares to you
GBL that too is one of the most powerful tear jerker tunes that I know of. The above portion in lyric makes me realize that the song was probably written with regard to ones losing their parent in death. Strange too, I wonder about our dear brother, Prince Nelson Rogers, as he was the writer of that tune, what effect it may've had on him upon his mother dying, it being an impetus for his getting baptized as a witness.

Anyone who can listen to this one without crying is a hard, hard man.

(Honey and Watching Scotty Grow by Bobby Goldsboro bring

on the sad and the happy tears, too. )

    PATCHES Clarence Carter

    PATCHES
    Clarence Carter

    SPOKEN:
I was born and raised down in Alabama
On a farm way back up in the woods
I was so ragged the folks used call me patches
Papa used to tease me about it
    But deep down inside
He was hurt because he done all he could do

    Sung:

My papa was a great old man
I can see him with a shovel in his hand digging
    Education he never had
But he did wonders when the time got bad
A little money from the crops he raised
Helped pay the bills we made

    Spoken:

For months he'd been sick and down in the dumps
When he tried to get up life would kick him back down
One day papa called me to his dyin bed
Put his hands on my shoulders And in tears he said

    Sung:

Patches, I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through My son, it's all left up to you

    SPOKEN:
Two days later papa passed away
I became a man that day
So I told mama I was gonna quit school
But she said that was daddy's strictest rule

    Sung:

So every morning before I went to school
I fed the chickens and I chopped wood too
Sometimes I felt that I couldn't go on
I wanted to leave and run away from home
But I would remember what my daddy said
With tears in his eyes on his dyin bed

He said, "Patches, I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through. My son its all left up to you

    SPOKEN:
Then one day a strong rain came
And washed all the crops away
And at the age of thirteen I thought I was carrying
The weight of the whole world on my shoulders
And you know, mama knew what I was going through, Cause

    Sung:

Everyday I had to work the fields
Cause that's the only way we got our meals
You see, I was the oldest of a family
And everybody else depended on me
Every night I heard my mama pray
Lord, give him the strength to face another day
Though years have passed and all the kids have grown
The Angels took mama to a brand new home
    But, No people,I never quit
My daddy's voice still rings through the fields
Sayin, "Patches, I'm depending on you son
To pull the family through My son, it's all left up to you
Patches, I'm depending on you son

This one always got to me, still does. Alice In Chains - "Nutshell" We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
    And yet I fight
    And yet I fight
    This battle all alone
    No one to cry to
    No place to call home

    Oooh...oooh...
    Oooh...oooh...

My gift of self is raped
    My privacy is raked
    And yet I find
    And yet I find
    Repeating in my head
If I can?t be my own
    I?d feel better dead

    Oooh...oooh...
    Oooh...oooh...

The very first one that always made me cry, was "Old Shep" by Elvis. He did such a great job on that!

The second was mentioned, "Holes in the Floor of Heaven".

There was another that always got to me and I've drawn a blank as to what the title was. Damn senior moments!

It was something like "Don't Take My Girl" but I can't remember the actual title--- can hum it though....

Prophecor ,,,,,,,,,,,Thank you so much for this:

OMG,,,,,,, I never knew that song was about Prince's Mother who passed!! It makes sense now.

When I heard that song, I feel apart because it hadnt been that long since my Mother passed and I identified with that song so much.

I never knew if the song was about someones Mom's passing but that is how it sounded to me. But I am always good at changing lyrics in my head to make them fit my situation.

I love Prince, JW and all.....lol. Just hope he leaves the borg, and gets back to making more of what he is best known for. Wont it be something when he gets out of the borg and writes anti cult songs............OMG!! And we know he can.......hope it is soon.

I love Purple Rain and When doves cry,,,,,,the man has a tortured soul but what an artist .
