When my father-in-law died a while ago, he was an elder in the congregation we used to attend. I was nervous going to attend his funeral at the kingdom hall we used to attend. The service was actually quite touching , in spite of the JW teachings interjected thruout the service. The elder taking the service taked about his life growing up and his relationship with his believing sisters. Sorry, not to get off topic, I was also worried about being shunned. Not that I really care what they think of my life outside the org. Its just not pleasant. Anyways, the sisters and brothers I had grown up with came and spoke to me and asked how we were and talked to our children and we felt very welcome. There were a couple of sisters who went out of their way to show they were snubbing us. But they are wacky anyways :). I left feeling even stronger in the belief that leaving was EXACTLY the right thing to do for myself and my children.I feel sorry for the ones who don't have the courage or enlightened enough to leave the control of the org and just live,,, the way a loving God intended...
Does the WTBTS still control your life?

"God doesnt force us to serve him."
Dune, you're correct, God does not force anything on us, but the WTS sure does once it gets its destructive grips on you. Only escaping from the life altering, ever controlling, hold that the Society has on those within this evil cult, can one fully understand the bible and the love our our Lord Jesus Christ, or not believe at all.

No one is taking away your freedom. WTBTS doesnt have a gun held to the heads of all the witnesses.
What a moron. Of course they do! The gun is your family. If your family does not agree to shun you when you leave for whatever reason, whether or not they agree with the reasons, they too are disfellowshipped. Since the family is stuck, if you wish to be part of their life, you must sacrifice your own beliefs and go back to the Witnesses false religion like a dog returning to its vomit.
Idiot... Do a little homework before spouting off your stupidity here to people who know better.

No, the Watchtower has no further hold on me. It's over. I resigned two years ago. Since I am not a JW I do not have to exercise or participate in anyway in the shunning practice as a participant or a recieptient of the poor manners. I usually see a witness or two everyday out in public. If I greeted them when I was a JW, I still greet them with a smile and a warm hello. It makes some of them turn away which is their choice. Usually they smile and go on by. At anyrate I do not stoop to their level of bias and poor manners. I never really honored the shunning practice when I was a member of that group (25 years) because I was not raised in it. I knew from my upbringing that such a practice was poor manners, mental, cruel and nasty. If a witness responds postively to my warm smile and hello I know the victory is theirs. It is their first small step at breaking away from the control even if they don't know it.

some say they have not control over me, but you need to ask yourself, and I am guilty of the same thing, do they cause me to do any thing, even if it is against them?
Is this not some type of control or is it just action causing reaction.
I still find myself lowering my cigar when passing a dubber, then think wait I don't talk to them, I don't associate with them, and don't want to. so why do I give a shit if they see me with a cigar?
I guess it is that I don't want them to feel like "WE GOT HIM" Like I have eluded the Posey.
But unless you move from where you are known, they will always have control over your reaction. or maybe a better way to put it would be that they have a certain amount of ability to cause a reaction, I.E you want to or do give them the middle finger when you go by the hall on Sunday.
I don't to this to the catholic church.

"What is expected of us is clearly stated in the bible"
The question is does the WTS as an org do what is expected of it regarding biblical demands? They always pester their members with admonitions but what are their own obligatons towards the membes and do they ever carry them out? -

Some of you were respectful, others were just down right nasty. Jeanniebeanz. NO ONE is disfellowshipped for speaking to disfellowshipped family members. read Km 8/02. I know you guys have the watchtower libraries. And i'm not trying to reconvert anyone, I guess i'm just amused by this pseudo-support group. As much as you say that we are "blinded" or "lost" or are just "idiots", your bitterness is only surpassed by your need to validate your views. And save your little fingers if you plan on replying to me, i'm not coming back to this topic.

What the KM says and what actually happens in the borg are two different things. The publications come out strong against Pedophilia as well, but that is not what actually goes on. I have known people who have told me that they cannot talk to me because they were hauled into the back room and told that to continue to associate with me after my df'ing put them in a position of disrespect for the elders and causing divisions in the congregation. They were told point blank that if they continued to associate with or speak to me in public they would be before a JC and given the boot.
So, save your stupid remarks for stupid people. We see right through you...
