no college means no quality in education. expressis verbis: nobody should learn how to question doctrine or with the voice of a nurse: come on babe, eat the oatsmeal.

I remember some years ago a DC where on the platform only had be young people with maturity. That was brought to light permanently and I think it should give a signe to authorities that JWs are "very normal" citizens.

When they start now a "no college" strategy again it seems that they have reached any political targets and they now can go on in their opportune strategies.

It is really a chameleon believe JWs have, changing the coulor to the environment, the flag to the wind.

But they must pay atttention when they leave a big fart that the wind does not change.

I really love how they blow one way for a while and then blow the opposite way for a while. Maybe they figure some of their lack of growth is due to kids going to college, being exposed to rational thinking, and never coming back.

Better to have congregations of folks limping along, barely making ends meet, with part-time work or as custodians and window washers, or looking for the next cool pyramid-type scheme to support themselves. Who cares if they won't have any pensions or health insurance? No skin off the FDS's collective noses. They will carefully phrase their articles to say that "ones should use prudence and discernment" (which means exactly nothing...it's just a way for them to weasel out from any responsibility when the r&f complain that they are gettig older and have no pension to live on...."We told you to use prudence, didn't we?), then they'll hit them over the head with "living simply" (while somehow not getting into debt), and finding employment that allows them to make sure not to miss the five weekly brainwashing sessions and be out peddling magazines and books at least 10 hours a month.

"Let's not be greedy, self-serving, ungrateful bastards ones, brothers and sisters....Jehovah needs YOU! All humble, God-fearing, right-thinking, intelligent people know that the end of this horrendous old system of things is right around the corner! Don't fall into the temptation of putting off spiritual goals in order to pursue a college education (picture the word "education" being said as though they'd just eaten a spoonful of dog poop). Instead of having your reward short-term in this scummy life, you too will be able to look forward to living forever in a PARADISE earth! Now lets open our song books to song # 222, Keep Your Eye On The Prize."

    Grrrrrrrrrrr.....idiots!

Well basically it was aimed at youths and was all about Timothy and the apostle Paul. It was rammed down everybodys throat --no college

When I was at Bethel a number of guys I knew and worked with were college grads before coming jw's. They all wound up with the better technical/skilled jobs. It was an observation not lost on the rest of us who skipped college back then.

Can it be confirmed that they are actually saying "no college" ?

If so it seems they are going back to their old stance on further education.

Well Look I was at the convention and I watched the Dram,a which is being released on DVD so you can confirm for yourself. No the ydid not say NO COLLEGE - bu the drama was all about Timothy not going to Athens for a college education but instead doing full-time ministry. He did this and got praise from Lois and Eunice and the apsotle Paul. So the messsage was strongly No College even though they did not actually say no college

***" oh you've missed so many meetings theres no way you could understand the need for obedience to the wtbs anymore"
Candidly---exactly! Those "meetings" are designed to keep you thinking and doing JUST as the WTS says! It's only when you stand back and take a clean breath offresh air can you SEE just what they are doing.
***Their members would have a lot more disposable income to donate if they went to college
But Euphemism......the risk of them never coming BACK to the fold after college (and life in the real world) is way too high. The WT would rather keep'em barefoot and poor than smart, richer and gone!
***"get pionerring just like Timothy" Where in the Bible does it say Timothy "pioneered"?
    VM44,
Wait---I'll get my bible! Anyway, I don't recall how old little Tim was supposed to be. Could he have been say.....like 25-30? How far did schools go up to back then? WERE there any colleges or places of higher learning that he COULD have attended had he wanted to? Might just be that none of this was applicable anyway!
***Better to have congregations of folks limping along, barely making ends meet, with part-time work or as custodians and window washers, or looking for the next cool pyramid-type scheme to support themselves. Luna,
That's just the way I see it too! It all sounds so noble until you peek under the covers and see the real meaning of what the WTS is up to.
***then they'll hit them over the head with "living simply" (while somehow not getting into debt), and finding employment that allows them to make sure not to miss the five weekly brainwashing sessions and be out peddling magazines and books at least 10 hours a month.
SPEAKING of "living simply"---this has long been a personal pet peeve of mine! (don't spit on the monitor) All this talk about how the R&F should do this---but look at all the prime real estate and their transactions recently! Look at the cost of Patterson alone! It's a stinking self-contained CITY fer pete's sake!
When our Assembly Hall in henrietta NY was built, there was imported Italian marble floors (which they later covered with carpet cuz it got "marked-haha) and too many folks were slipping on it.
The state-of-the-art stainless steel kitchen with all sorts of stuff..........was sold shortly aferwards cuz the WTS decided no meals would be served....and the list just HERE grows and grows. I'm sure that things like this are going on worldwide. Stanley Theater in downstate NY---chandeliers no less!
There used to be a website called "Stan and July's vacations" that were FILLED with all these magnificent KHs with landscaping to die for complete with fountains and waterfalls.....and THEY (WTS)have the nerve to push this "simplicity" thing??????? MY yard should look so good. And MY kitchen. SHEESH!
Think about how many hungry kids and virtually penniless families could have benefitted by having half of all that $$$$$. I'm sure that when Jesus said to take care of the poor and needy---that he meant by havig beautiful buildings and landscapes to look at to brighten their world..........not.
Annie.........who has to get outside before it hits 95 again today and take care of MY pitiful landscape!

I am surprised that they say this having admitted in 1995 that the end may well be a very long way off, perhaps they don't want to have educated people in the org to challenge their control over it. To perpetuate this control they need naive and gullible members and education opens the eyes.

Amazing how they still want to go on messing up people's lives in the year 2005. Unrepentantly cultish.

Kids in da troof with wealthy, college-educated, borg-prominent parents will still go to college, and it will be treated as a natural thing (maintaining one's social class). It's the kids from less prominent and/or less educated families who go to improve their lot that they've got their condescending eyes on, and it's these ones that they're losing left and right.

So, time for them to do another little flip-flop on this issue, while at the same time being able to say "we never made it a rule". Well yeah, there's no "rule" against a sister wearing slacks to the KH, but how would the cong treat a sis who did? Steering the social pressure in such an insular organization is a great way of enforcing the will of the leaders, so much so that they often don't need to make hard-and-fast rules to get JW's to behave the way the geezers in Brooklyn think they ought to.

    Dumber and Crazier.

In 1975 they said no college, the end is just months away. That was 30 years ago.

And they still have the nerve to refer to these works of fiction as "Bible Dramas"? Cecil B. DeMille did a better job of representing Scripture. Amazing.
