Abaddon
Abaddon, from Revelation, where the Angel of the Abyss is named as Abaddon (or Apollyon in Greek).
Chosen for several reasons;
1/ It sounds good. Nice and portentious, especially the 'Angel of the Abyss' bit. I have considered business cards, just for fun.
2/ In a London accent 'Abaddon' sounds like 'a bad one'. Oooo, the angst!
3/ In the books by Julian May, Abaddon is the nickname of a key character I find rather interesting.
4/ Nice vaugeness about whether Abaddon is a good guy or a bad guy, in both the Bible and Julian May's books.
Very pretentious, I know.
I like screen names. I've used a fair few since '94 when I first got on line in the old BBS's, and Abaddon has kind of become the favourate. I originally used one as I feared my parents reading the boards I go to, but am a lot less worried about that now, and especially on Tishies old board, most old regular posters know my first name, which is distinctive enough, as I tend to sign off with it when posting something more personal.

Zev,
I know well of whom you speak. I last saw TT at my mother's funeral back in '93, and can remember back to swimming at their family house in Warren as a kid. Drop me an email and I will discuss it further.

Amazing
Hi Closer: Originally, on H20, I tried to use the moniker, Great High Priest ... in the spirit of Hawkeye / Alan Alda sarcasm. But someone else was using that name.
Then, I recalled a good friend from my engineering days who marveled at the shear stupidity of people in high places. He often said in conclusion to political and religious discussions, 'Simply Amazing' and that phrase stuck with me. So, on H20, I adpoted the 'Simply Amazing' as my primary moniker. I tried to reduce this to 'SA' for brevity, but somehow the name 'Amazing' stuck with me. So, when I came over to JWd, I simply used, Amazing. - It is, as always, Simply Amazing

Mindchild
I was digging through the archives and came across this thread and thought it was pretty cool to understand people's handles.
I use Mindchild because it reflects a belief I entertain about an option that may become avaialble in the future for a transhuman condition...essentially that we might become androids and have bodies that last for thousands of years or longer. These will be our mindchildren, intelligent machines in which we can download ourselves.
See, I don't need God for my own version of eternal life
