Not just the actors/actresses, but their 'entourage'.... what a sickly biunch of brown noses they are paid to be!

The purpose of a job isn't to benefit society. It's to benefit the holder of the job. The reason pop stars and sports players are paid so much is because people are willing to pay that much for the service they provide. If you don't like it, don't give them your money.

Sometimes when you see people paid to do almost nothing you wonder how they don't get bored to death. The other point is that in certain posts there are far too many people and they end up doing very little upon sharing the tasks between them.

i have no problem with actors, models, musicians, athletes, media personalities, as all of these people do benefit mankind in some way, whether it be feel good factor or in making people want to better themselves, or just plain entertainment. before movies there was theatre & stage. if we don't have entertainment, then we might as well be machines.
jobs i think are of no use to society on a whole are, overseas call centres, in india or philippines or wherever, they serve the company profits, but make things more difficult for the public.
also of no use are the jobs of people who call (unsolicted) to try to save me money if i spend with them, when i am already happy spending more with someone else.

''Personal Trainers'' - what's that about? ''Exercise and you'll get fitter'' - ''lift these weights and you'll WORK your ARM muscles'' - EXERCISE IS FREE!!
ALSO - Dieticians (apart from the medical ones) - I mean who DOESN'T know that eating your own bodyweight in junk food is going to make you put on weight? Why PAY to be weighed once a week and be told what to eat? Calories/fat/etc are now printed on EVERY food product we buy - doesn't take a maths degree to add the calories/fat etc up.

Anyone who works in telesales I get at least 5 calls a day from people telling me my company is too stupid to work out for itself what's the best deal on line rental. The worst ones are the crackly echoing calls from “Barbara” who has a very strong Asian accent and can't tell you what the correct time is (this is always fun when you've got an oversees cold call pretending not to be and easy to slip into the conversation) but then again if they didn't call then I wouldn't have any contestants for the “how long on hold” sweep stakes.

OK, on my actors/actresses remark, I concede that they do provide an entertainment factor to our lives, but do the services that they provide truly demand getting paid, say, $10 million dollars, for a couple months work? That is what gets me fired up. If you were to rank in importance the positions of a doctor and an actor, why does a doctor get paid less than an actor such as Tom Cruise? This is where society in general has just gone downhill in our time. I see nothing wrong with paying Tom Cruise $100k a year for his "work." Does he really need an extravagant home in Malibu? Vacations all over the world?
The food chain these days just makes me ill. You have the food/beverage/clothing/etc companies paying millions of dollars to marketing companies to promote their merchandise. They in turn pay the TV networks millions of dollars for a 30 second spot between sometimes ridiculous shows. The TV networks will pay millions of dollars to certain actors to pull in those viewers to catch a glimpse of the advertising. It is all about outdoing the other companies. Who can promote their product better. We all know that certain timeslots draw more viewers and the networks charge more to the advertisers during those times.
I'm going to stop in midstream now because my rant is becoming incoherent even to me...

Actors and actresses often work extremely hard for their roles, sometimes spending over a year doing research and physical/mental preparation. I agree that it's not worth 10-20 million bucks per movie, but the business is extrememly competitive. The execs know that higher-profile actors generate much more revenue than your average joe, so higher-profile actors can pretty much set their own price.
