the big problem is that they leave you in the dark about what it'll be all about and you start thinking about the possibilities. then they are prepared and at least 2, while you are alone and maybe completely perplexe at first.
i've developed a good way to avoid such sheperding calls. when 2 of them want to talk to me i say i'd rather only talk to one person (elder of choice) and only if he keeps it for himself. i also say i need to know about the topic, so i can prepare, as they are prepared too.
the outcome: they just leave me alone. if i indeed talk to the one elder of choice i make him promise to not tell anyone about the conversation first. so much to the 2 witness rule :-)

Elders lie to each other, to the congregation, to the CO/DO/WTS, their families and themselves.
Again true. Though some really try not to and as you said, get fed up because the others do and step aside. Especially to themselves... we want to believe that we are helping people instead of tightening the cult grip. Its a VERY sad situation.
