Oh, I remembered. A janitor, but here's his story: he was in university doing a degree in mathematics when he converted and quit university because it was "worthless." I felt sorry for that guy, he was quite, quite emotionally dependent on the JWs.

You just reminded me of an elder janitor. He was a janitor at the university. He and the members of his family could have had a complete college degree, for free. That was a benefit for all university employees. Not a single one took advantage of this, of course.

construction, real estate, firefighter, car dealership owner, electrician, plumber, mechanical engineer, accountant, school teacher, RN, mechanic, college professor, professional musician, computer programmer, paralegal, architect, electrical engineer, government workers in various departments, sheet metal worker, etc.

About 2/3 were JWs when they took on additional education, some of the pioneering during the same time. While some are in cleaning, they own the business and have an average of 5 employees. I have nothing against cleaning for a living; not everyone knows how to do a good job in as little time as posssible. It takes some professionalism to visit businesses and submit bids for jobs in a way that gets you work. All the people who have jobs requiring college paid their own way too, no help from mommy and daddy. If you notice, I don't think anybody took a degree in a subject that "exposed" them to many "god-dishonoring" topics. Others took advantage of the programs through the labor unions for the trades.

It isn't a college education that guarantees you a job. Be very careful what your major is. Don't get a major in French or geography and wonder why the only field open to you is teaching. Or a degree in Elizabethan poetry, or economics, comparative literature. Think ahead, what kind of companies hire people with this degree. Or you will find yourself going back to school to pursue another major.

If you live in a university town or with several nearby, I have noticed a vastly different attitude in the cngregations than in one several hundred miles away from the nearest university.
