"What exactly is "ridiculous left coast politics"? "
It's when actors dcide that the rest of us can't fathom the decisions of which candidate or politcal platoform to support without their enlightened viewpoints to guide us.
STFU! I pay to see you portray a role in a movie! If I wanted your political opinions, I'd hire you as a consultant. Just take the damn Oscar & get the hell off the stage. And you'd better pray to God thatTom Selleck doesn't shoot your ass in your next movie!
Beyond that? It's that amazing politics that gave us folks who put the snail darter & the kangaroo rat ahead of the needs of men, women and children. It's the politics that put Davis in office & established bans on charcol starter fluid & required catalytic converters on lawnmowers. It's the politics that gave us California, Oregon, and Washington: the "left coast".
how many of you are considering boycotting tom cruise's 'war of the worlds'

Dang...here I was thinking that we weren't of one mind.
That's *exactly* what I thought when R. R. ran for gov of Cal, and then *vomit* US president.
Sadly, I think I had just begun to recover from the trauma when...Cal elected the Terminator as Gov?
(fades away while humming some old song about revolutions...)

Don't too much care for Tom Cruise's acting, or most of the movie's he leads in. I'm unfamiliar with the original version of this, and would probably like to see/read it first before subjecting myself to the butchered Speilberg version. The trailers really didn't grab me...having said that though, I could change my mind and go on cheap arse Tuesday when tickets are half price...

All actors like to shoot off at the mouth - it is why they became actors!
Like all of us, he is entitled to express his opinion. I personally like Tom Cruise and find him very watchable. He has been in some good films:
The Last Samurai
Minority Report
Vanilla Sky
Mission: Impossible II
Jerry Maguire
Mission: Impossible
Interview with the Vampire
The Firm
Far and Away
A Few Good Men
Born on the Fourth of July
Rain Man
Top Gun
The Color of Money
Risky BusinessThere must be something there you watched and enjoyed?

What do you mean by the original version of the film? As far as I know there was only a 60's (?) one set in America which bore no resemblance whatsoever to the book, which is set in Victorian England.
I don't care about Tom Cruise's beliefs as far as the movie is concerned. He did a good job in 'The Last Samuri' as an actor so I'll give the movie a chance. But it won't be the 'War of the Worlds' by HG Wells, it'll be totally Speilberg, and U.S. orientated.
I saw the new Hitchhikers movie and it sucked big time. Not a patch on the BBC TV series.

There have only been a couple of movies that I've "boycotted". One was Powder because I'd read that the director was a pedophile and the other was Battlefield Earth because Travolta was obviously using his star power to further the agenda of a stupid cult and it annoyed me.
I'm finding that the more Tom Cruise rants on about Scientology, the more unattractive and uninteresting he becomes (I have never found him very appealing, so this is not new), and I tend to not want to see anything that he's in. I may or may not see War of The Worlds because of that. It wouldn't be a boycott necessarily, just massive indifference.

If I boycotted all the world's nutjobs, I'd never leave the house and I probably wouldn't be on this board.

I wasn't gonna watch it anyway. I'm glad someone started this thread. I just felt physically sick watching his bashing of something he hasn’t got a clue about. I mean, every year you watching him becoming bigger and bigger nuts.
Reminded me of many dubs and how presentable many of them really are with their “deep” insight of absolutely everything.

Why Georgia
I had really wanted to see the movie because I think that Dakota Fanning (the little blonde girl) is so cute and a great actress for her age.
Tom Cruises last few movies and especially ones associated with Steven Spielberg have really not made me happy to fork over my $8.50. I really am not a Spielberg fan since A I - that movie was incredibly emotionally upsetting to me.
And since Tom Cruise said what he did about Brooke Shields...and I have had PPD...I really cannot see his movie. I don't want to add to his Scientology Tything.

I'm going. Tom Cruise is just one part of the movie. Many, many people are part of it and I have no desire to hurt them.
If I stopped going to movies because I didn't agree with the personal views of some of the people involved in making it, I would never go.
