Well all i know, is that back when i was in the org there were a few people that had that odd stare. It was always a small number and they were always a bit weird or funny and everyone knew it. I think they were just a couple of sandwiches short of a picnic. Probably nothing to do with the fact that they were JW's although the troof would probably have amplified any eccentricities in these kind of people.
Is it just me, or do j-dubs have "crazy eyes"?

This is not a serious thread is it? Tell me you’ve been sniffing petrol.

I have the dull vacant look. I put it on in the KH parking lot and take it off when I leave the KH lot.
It's part of my disguise to fit in. Just like using dub expressions.

RR,
I found myself, and I think most here would tell you they had a similar experience, and that is once you move out you like your folks a lot better.
I think that is universal. Dub has nothing to do with it. You will like your mom better once you leave. You will like her even better once she leaves (the org that is).
Go easy on mom. She is the only woman that will really ever love you.

Well I was just kidding CYP. I do get to be angry don't I?
She is the only woman that will really ever love you.
Actually, she's said different.
I love her, but I'm not to roll around on the ground so she can pat my belly.
I don't care if it's mom, Mother Theresa, or Minimus-
SHe can't stop me from going to college, leaving the truth, etc.

i have another theory CYP. I think the intense wide eyed look in photos is because some people do that in their effort not to blink when the flash goes off. Bigger eyes also makes you look younger and vanishes wrinkles. I've got a photo on my desk from the ball I went - its a group pic and the girl sitting next to me has that enormous eyed fanatical stare. So one reason is simple vanity.
Another reason is that people over empahsise how interested they are in what you are saying so that you will like them more, usually this kind of reaction means they are thinking how to get away from you and not to what you are saying... but um maybe that just happens to me....

I wouldn't describe it as a "1000 yard stare", it's more subtle than that and not always easy to spot in a photograph. I think it is related to the brainwashed state, they say the eyes are an extension of the brain afterall.

I guess I should clarify a few things given all of the comments so far.
I am not saying ALL dubs have this look. I also notice that many who are not dubs have this look. I just tend to notice an awful lot of dubs who do. In particular, I spent the weekend with a woman who has that look ALL THE TIME. If you spend that much time talking to one of those people, you will get a little creeped out. And yes I agree, it isn't so much the Charlie Manson look. It is more of like doll eyes, like a mesmerized robot kind of deal.
RR,
Sure you get to be pissed off. I am just saying is don't be suprised if your perspective changes dramatically in just a few short years. I can't wait to hear about your college days, and your coming emancipation. Sweet liberty!

I dated a girl that got those "crazy eyes" whenever she was talking to anyone at the Kingdom Hell. I'm pretty sure it was just her trying to look like she was interested in whatever mundane shit the person she had to chat with was saying. After all, they see each other sooo much small talk does get incredibly boring.. she would get those huge eyes and just nod and nod. Freaky.

I just remembered I worked with a guy, years ago, that was not a JW but was a fanatical Pentecostal type and always preaching to people. Every once in a while it looked like one of his eyes was rolling around in his head and doing weird things--it made me look away because it was creepy. I always thought he was possessed or something.
