Could the Awake be getting dumber?
Let's look a recent issue ( July 22, '05)
1) The cover reads "Natural Disasters - Are They Getting Worse?"
Of course, the Watchtower wants you to conclude -Yes!! - despite the fact that
many of the quoted disasters have happened previous to the 20th century and
not been equaled since ( pg. 7 & 9)
2) The Awake promises that God will end famine (pg. 13) What it fails to tell you
is that God is going to end famine by killing off starving multitudes at
Armageddon because they aren't Jehovah's Witnesses! Tough luck for those
wide eyed hungry kids shown on page 12.
3)"Meeting The Challenge of Meetings" (pg. 28) It seems that waste-of-time
meetings are a real problem in today's world. Meetings "that last too long"
or that are "unnecessary" are also a problem. Hello? Is anybody home?
Yoo-Hoo, Bethel -- Is anyone there reading this hypocritical crap?
How often do you attend meetings of Jehovah's Witnesses, brother Writer?
4) and finally! We have the story of a Witness couple who were saved by remembering
an Awake article on giant waves! ( pg. 31)
However, did the Awake article really save their lives? Let's see:
"When the Gesells saw the giant wave in the distance, they turned around and
started running."
Now, I can't speak for you but if I see a giant anything coming towards me
( wave, 50 foot tall woman, Godzilla), I am inclined to run away. I don't need
an Awake article ( Feb. 8, 2001) to mull over in my memory.
