    Given that he's admitted ignorance about the details of some of the symptoms, heck yeah, I'd get a second opinion!!!

    Hope you get to the bottom of it, whatever needs to be done. Our health is worth taking care of

    ABSOLUTELY GET A 2ND OPINION!!! In many cases insurance companies pick up 100% of the cost of a second opinion....so it may not cost you a time. But before anyone does a surgical procedure you should feel 100% confident in your condition and doctor's ability.

    I'd say, yes, get a 2nd opinion but check that the doctor has seen such a thing. Perhaps get copies of the medical reports and test results to make sure the next doctor won't scratch his head and say the same thing. This way you'll know beforehand that the doc is privy to your condition and has possibly seen it before and has some good treatment options.

    Doctor Rat will examine that leg.... jk

    Get a 2nd and 3rd opinion if necessary. When a doctor says that he never such a case of doesn't know why there is swelling, this just means that he doesn't know enough.

    Go see another one. you could also pm nurse "Scully"

    Hi Brooke, I think you should get a 2nd opinion. Also, look stuff up on the internet. I always do this whenever anything medical is going on with my family. I have learned alot, and have come to the doctors with suggestions, from what I've learned on the net. Good luck! You poor thing, so young to be going through health problems.

    but he can't explain the Swelling.

    Most definitely get a 2nd or even 3rd opinion!

    Has the Dr. ever described your condition as Phlebitis? (fle-BYE-tis)

    Have you been outside of the US? If so it could be a parasite that causes a condition called elephantitis.

    =====

    What is phlebitis?

    Phlebitis (also called thrombophlebitis) is a condition where there is inflammation in the walls of the veins, most commonly the leg veins, and usually clots form in the wall and valves of the veins. DVT (Deep Venous Thrombosis) is a more severe form of the condition where the veins in the deeper areas of the legs, groins and pelvis are involved with the inflammation.

    What are the signs and symptoms of phlebitis?

    The most common is pain along the course or location of the veins involved. If it is the leg veins, there will be pain and tenderness (to touch) in the inner thigh and the inner aspect of the lower leg, when these veins are inflamed. There could also be redness along the same course. Sometimes, in chronic cases, pain might be minimal.

    I think it's unanimous, so far, Brooke, isn't it? Get a second opinion! Is there a research facility around there different from the hospital to which this doctor has admitting privileges? At a university, perhaps?

    And after you do, pay attention to what your instincts are telling you, too! (Although, ignoring the condition for this long was probably NOT a good idea, so maybe stop being so damn stoic! lol)

    Keep us posted, please, too!
