    G'day all,

OK I'm back!! Looking over the past few days, I see the esteemed Farks has appeared out of the mists of time and readan_connor too and........ Well ain't it nice to know that old friends are still 'there'.

So how's it been for you? Need a smile?

OK, let's share a weekend poll together.

    This weekend's poll question is:

How could the elders encourage more meeting attendance?

    1. Cancel them! (think about it! )

    2. Offer hour credits on the monthly reports for meetings attended.

    3. Reduce them to once a week. (just like the churches!!!! )

    4. Make them shorter.

    5. Make a rule that they have to be different each week.

    6. No books to be taken to the meetings.

    7. Allow the sisters to give the talks.

    8. Allow the sisters to organise the meetings.

    9. Get the best speakers whether they are elders/ministerial servants or not.

    10. Other (please detail)

    Well, what's your opinion?

So get those replies in and tell us what you think about this 'vital' matter!!

    Enjoy.

    Cheers, Ozzie (permanently upside-down class)

They really could do so much to improve attendance, couldn't they?

    1. Cancel them! (This they helped me do for myself.)

    2. Offer hour credits on the monthly reports for meetings attended. (Does this also work toward those 4-month studying-for-baptism college education replacement credits?)

    3. Reduce them to once a week. (Sometimes less IS more!)

    4. Make them shorter. (And do what? Just read from the BIBLE?)

    5. Make a rule that they have to be different each week. (D-D-D-Different? How? Now you're just being radical!)

    6. No books to be taken to the meetings. (Wait now. Our whole corporation religion is based on the manufacture and distribution of books.)

    7. Allow the sisters to give the talks. (But absolutely no praying, not even with a head-covering!)

    8. Allow the sisters to organise the meetings. (Alright, but you know there's going to be special arrangements to care for the needs of the children, right? And the brothers will be asked to bring tasty treats to serve afterward during socialization. And we will be arranging for congregational sporting events as well. Yes?)

    9. Get the best speakers whether they are elders/ministerial servants or not. (Including guest speakers from the local college, perhaps?)

    10. Other (...can't think of anything else off the top of my head...)

Thanks for another great weekend poll, Ozzie!

How could the elders encourage more meeting attendance?

    1. Cancel them! (think about it! )
    2. Yes, some JWs would think the end is coming and demand meetings.

    3. Offer hour credits on the monthly reports for meetings attended.
    4. Now there is an idea; but they would have to reinstate the hour quota system and make it at least 15 hours.

    5. Reduce them to once a week. (just like the churches!!!! )
    6. Actually the churches around here have a meeting on Wednesday (praise) and Thursday (Bible study) too. But then they are optional to the one on Sunday (which is optional too, no CBS overseer checking up on you).

    7. Make them shorter.
    8. They did do that once with both the school/SM and PT/WT study, by 15 minutes. They abbreviate the WT study at the circuit assembly into 30 minutes. They could do it again. Have only 10 minute instruction talk, #3 and #4 talks (30 minutes max); SM 15 minutes, announcements. Then they could have the book study, 30 minutes, don't read paragraphs, just scriptures and discuss. (3 meetings, 1 hour 15 minutes; 1 hour and 30 minutes (choir segment)

    9. Make a rule that they have to be different each week.
    10. Actually the material is different each week but presented the same. It would be like having rabbit, turkey, beef, pork and having it served up as a burger and fries every time.

    11. No books to be taken to the meetings.
    12. I have been to Bible studies where the only books are your Bible and a concordance. Very lively and everyone prepared beforehand.

    13. Allow the sisters to give the talks.
    14. Believe me, sisters can give boring, unprepared talks. The school is an example. This would only work if the qualified sisters gave talks, but that would be the answer to the talks now, only qualified brothers, even if he has to give the talk every Sunday.

    15. Allow the sisters to organise the meetings.
    16. Crap is crap, organised or not.

    17. Get the best speakers whether they are elders/ministerial servants or not.
    18. See #7. This is a good idea. Get the best speakers whether they are elders/MS/just brothers/sisters.

    19. Other (please detail)

Have a good choir. Have good live music (encourage children to learn an instrument perhaps give classes). Music better arranged. Have special segment in the meetings highlighting choir. Encourage music other than Kingdom music; new compositions/words.

Have a room for the younger children to listen to Bible stories, art, music, do plays, while more adult fare is going; supervised by adult volunteers.

Have support groups for parents; marriage/divorce counseling; employment counseling; get-togethers for singles.

Have hospitality in a building with kitchen and eating area just off KH after the Sunday meetings. Can just be cookies, cake, milk, coffee 3 weekends and a big potluck one Sunday a month.

Struth, Blondie, aren't you being influenced by "the churches"? - sounds just like them.

I've been to a few churches, ozzie.

But they can be boring too. Got to shop around.

You'll have to come downunder, Blondie, I haven't been bored in any church in New South Wales, whether they're catholic, protestant or pentecostal. Nothing like at the KH.

Like you say, singing makes a big difference.

You have to come to the US and I can take you to some boring churches. Compared to the KH any church would seem exciting.

I have been to some where the sermon could be better. So far:

    Best speaker--Lutheran

    Best music--Congregationalist or Baptist (tie)

    Best food--Bible Students

    Best children's program--Independent

    Best neighborhood atmostphere--Lutheran

I'm not much for ritual or chanting.

I have the Friends (Quakers) on my list; have already been to an LDS Stake.
