Ive never had a problem in nearly all the Cities ive been to in the World.Especially those in the middle east.

I felt a bit uneasy in Durban SA....also the redfearn district Sydney and barcelona late at Night.

New York was fine 2 Years ago...a Cop was virtually every 100 yards!Ditto Johannesburg..but only if you got in before dark..else forget it.

I feel safe in most cities...including my nearest which is Manchester and have always felt safe in Edinburgh although over the last few days there dressed in a kilt with nothing on underneath on my stag weekend I didnt feel anything like safe....in fact felt positively exposed....hehe...not the answer you were looking for I know....

I got attacked once after dark (1 am) in Amsterdam; some punks tried to steal our bicycles when we unlocked them.

I walked through a questionable part of D.C. at night; but things turned out okay.

    Very interesting.

Safe is a function of who you are, who you are with, time of day and luck.

Generally, the following cities are unsafe: Lima, Peru (after dark), D.F. (Mexico City), Mexico, Rio, Brasil, NYC after dark, Most border towns along the Mexican border, especially after dark.

With that said, I've strolled in DF, no problems, walked alone the streets oh Philly and LA at night alone and no problems. Did have 5 guys try to rob me in Havana however I wouldn't consider it unsafe and they ended up giving up and got nothing. I also was in a Mexican border town and while I got some dirty looks, I was twice their size and in a group so nothing went down.

Latinamerican large cities are bad for women due to the macho attitude that is so prevalent and low prosecution rates of crimes. One only need look at the 100's of rapes and murders in Juarez (Mex. frontera) and the blisters the cops have on their hands for sitting on them.

I havent travelled extensively but i always feel totally safe in London. Theres a park in Gloucester I dont feel safe in because lots of muggings happen there.

I always feel safe in cities and well lit places. Only places I dont feel safe are quiet back alleys, parks, country lanes etc. I had a terrible experience when I was 8 in a quiet place close to where I live, and its left me with a complete fear of quiet places. But cities im OK with.

Ooooooh Frannie, I'd beg to differ.....

Brussels, Belgium - unsafe ...................... Nicosia, Cyprus - safe

    Frannie

I lived in Belgium and found Brussels SAFE, whereas, maybe Nicosia is safe NOW

    I feel safe in

    Chicago....Twin Cities etc.....

I like a Big City with alot of people! I would never be caught dead in the Country or Woods by myself. I would just die. A Deer or Cow could attack at any moment.

My Dad hates me in a Big City....Last time we were in Chicago he was tired and wanted to go back to the hotel and I wanted to do a little more shopping he didn't want to let me go. I said I would be fine.(this was last month...lol) As I was walking away he screaming out on Michigan Ave.."Don't talk to any strangers"...lol I laughed so hard. I then screamed back..."Just tell everyone I am alone and I have alot of cash on me"! We still laugh at that.

There have been a few times that I have not felt safe.

I used to live in Portland Oregon, and nighttime in the NE area, felt very, very unsafe, even driving. Felt that way every time.

I went to Philadelphia a few years ago, and don't know what area it was, but very scary.

Also ended up driving through the Watts area of Los Angeles. I wouldn't recommend it.
