Danny - sounds like you just froze. I think criminals count on that. Thank goodness for the good swift kick of your lady.

    yes, I did.
Even though I think that what she did was kind of stupid. Just give the money would be more my option, it wasn't much anyway.
But he, she has balls. :) Maybe she was more used to it. As I was in a strange city, and she wasn't.

Wow, Danny your story reminds me of a women who was killed when she tried to use karate and kicked a mugger who also happened to be holding a gun. The scenario was the same except that the mugger was robbing her best-friend not her. I guess it all boils down to the situation, so don't feel bad.

Ho Chi Minh City - safe as houses!

Phnom Penh, Cambodia - w-e-e-e-l-l-l.................not exactly!

Basically I've found all of Europe, Scandinavia very safe. Frankly, I reckon it's the locals who might be a bit scared when I'm around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there's one place an Australian shouldn't go to, it's Bali, Indonesia. The downunder mob will know why!

Hey ozzie...you mean night club bombings, and life sentences for drugs planted on innocent victims, not enough to keep me away, that's if I had any interest in going there;)

I do not feel safe in my home city of Baltimore, Maryland. There are parts of the city I simply will not travel at night even accompanied by others. It is dangerous.

Tikrit's relatively safe compared to Baghdad, comparatively. Though a mortar landed about 50 meters away from us the other day. Some Ba'ath party anniversary

mmm...I've felt pretty much safe in most of the cities I've been in although there are some parts of Oakland I was nervous in until I got used to them. Then again I grew up in what was considered a bad crack infested section of Seattle so most of the places I've lived and visited seem good in comparison.

Okay I'm very patriotic - so I defend my country. Just 'cos you got mugged in C/town doesn't make the whole of c/town or South Africa unsafe. I'm sorry to hear that though. I've been mugged in my own city - yet I still feel very safe. I've had other things happen to me too but I still feel safe.

The thing is with any city - you have to be careful where you go & how you dress and what you flash in those areas. Those incidences in my life happend when I was walking in the not so best part of Dbn, (once I was by myself) early in the morning or late at night....if I'd been more careful I'm sure I would have been fine.

One thing about S.A - yes there is crime - we are very fortunate that we don't *touch wood* suffer from the HUGE things like kids getting mowed down at school by a fellow student, terrorists.....

Stick to the "safe" arears of any city / town and you should be fine.
