I never used to belive in the death penalty. But now for cold-blooded- proven without an doubt murderers- yes. Also rapists, paedophiles etc. As long as all these crimes are proved tho.

Not only are serious, hardened criminals a threat to society, they are also a financial damper. The average inmate living cost is $30,100 a year. This comes out of everyone's pocket- including the victims. The average execution only costs a mere $1700. That means that the 3,374 criminals sitting on death row could all be executed with the money it costs for 185 criminals to live.

This is simply not true. Check your facts.

The death penalty costs more than life in prison.Prosecuting a death penalty case is extremely expensive for a state and drains money that could be used for education and social programs. It costs more than sentencing a prisoner to life without parole.

The most comprehensive death penalty study in the country found that the death penalty costs North Carolina $2.16 million more per execution than a non-death penalty murder case with a sentence of life imprisonment (Duke University, May 1993). In its review of death penalty expenses, the State of Kansas concluded that capital cases are 70% more expensive than comparable non-death penalty cases.

I didn't include prosecution fees in that number...

And it was accurate... if I only had the source....

Why not? It is part of the cost for an execution.

Ommiting it is a manipulation of data, to better fit your theory.

    Fair exchange is no robbery.

If you take a life, you forfeit a life. Now what's the problem?

The only rights that murderers and pedophiles have is the right to remain silent. And silent they will be, if they were suitably punished.

The Crown is responsible for prosecuting in a murder trial, so the outcome has no bearing on these fees. IF there is doubt a jury will acquit anyway, and I think they would be more likely to acquit in the event of the Death Penalty being re-introduced. Prisoners shouldn't spend years sitting on Death Row, but executed swiftly.

Yes, I am definitely for it in many instances. There are too many evil people who need dying. I am sick of how life has become cheapened in this country.

But it should never be against a person who is of diminished capacity.

-Prosecution fees? -----No wonder it costs so much to execute ! The same fees can cost the alleged killer in attorney's fees. Oh well. Sometimes they get off scotfree like OJ.
