We "pro- deathers" are still JWs inside......Thanks UC for that support. I'd return the favor for your loved one, too.

With all due respect minimus, that's a very unlikely scenario.

But, you know what? If someone I cared about was brutally murdered, I would probably want to see the person responsible killed.

But it wouldn't really matter what I wanted at that moment, because in the big picture I think capitol punishment is bad for society

Like Jesus said "The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few".

I'm against the death penalty. If it was to be reintroduced in the UK it should only be in cases beyond reasonable doubt ie only where there were witnesses. DNA evidence sometimes (rarely admitedly) and circumstantial evidence gets it wrong. I'm thinking at the moment of the father who has been released pending retrial for the murder of his foster daughter Billie-Jo Jenkins (?). Rough Justice made a programme on this case about 10 years ago proving that the evidence that the police had brought against him was extremely unreliable plus they had ignored other possible suspects.

If the penal system was revised, I would like to see:

    1.Sentences where life means life.

2.No time off for good behaviour on any jail terms - but time added on for bad behaviour.

    3. Prisoners should be made to earn their keep whilst inside, if they won't work, they have to do firstly without 'luxuries' eg cigarette money, tv etc. even food if they don't earn enough to buy it.

    4. No section 43 (for paedophiles, child killers etc) - you do the crime, you do the time, no special protection.

Finally, if a killer actually wants the death sentence, give them bootlaces and 2 bottles of paracetamol! (*extremely tongue in cheek*)Seriously, I sometimes wonder if this request is made out of an inability to face up to the consequences of their actions.

Six, it's not unlikely at all. All of these people that are killed do have loved ones that want justice. Some justice might meet life in prison. Others though, might mean DEATH. Put me in the 2nd position.

I thought Spock said that in "Wrath of Khan"?

Whatever. It was some fictional character that said it.

Let's say my daughter gets abducted, raped, tortured, mutilated and beaten to death from a killer. ALL the EVIDENCE PROVES he was the one. HE even admits it (because the evidence is overwhelming) and states that if he's not executed, he will kill again in prison or if he can ever get out, he'll rape and gleefully kill again.

You really think that's a believable scenario?

How many times do you think a case with all the factors you mention has happened?
