I agree with elsewhere on the cognitive dissonance being a factor, having to believe that "the end is so close", when its obviously not any closer now than it ever was.

Deep down, I think they know its a lie, but to admit that would mean admitting they have wasted years, perhaps decades of their life on chasing a fantasy.

***Deep down, I think they know its a lie, but to admit that would mean admitting they have wasted years, perhaps decades of their life on chasing a fantasy.*** The above statement is so true! Makes me think of my parents. Sheesh! my mom cannot/willnot get out of bed sometimes and refuses to talk to anyone. She is the wife of a past prominent elder who has 'retired' as such. They have simply been fanatics in a religeon that has worn them out. My one brother is a fanatic as well. What's with calling me at 2:30am to find out why I am not attending meetings???? One of my 2 sisters is on permanent disability and receives ss for being diagnosed as bi-polar. Thank whomever, that myself and 1 sister are living our lives outside of the 'oh so righteous organization!' But I still feel sympathy for those who are in and have no clue. I am the oldest of 4, my folks started their bible study when I was 4. What a waste! But they thought they were doing something good (my folks that is) The jw organization is evil personified! and that is my opinion! thank-you for reading

one of the pub in my bookstudy was a single black sister who is a Dr. she is a society expert witness as well, her practice was here in DC- we used to talk all the time since we knew the same bethelites-

99% of her patients were jw refered by CO's all around the dc area, md, va and dc-

and she would discuss no one case in particualr, but how so many cases revolved around feelings of worthlessness, depression, bipolar and chronic fatigue-

and just how many friends in our hall as well as surrounding halls were on medication

looking back it never dawn on me how this truly is sad, that the "Happiest People on Earth" suffer so much from mental issues then other folks

    so sad but so true

There were a handful in each cong so had the disorders - illnesses but in the world or out of the cong. I didnĀ“t hear of anyone having it. Maybe it is a factor of who you hang with and their ages, goals and occupations.

CF is not a single disease. It is actually a very broad rubric that covers anyone with a given set of symptoms for whom there is not another clear diagnosis.

Personally, I've suffered from CF since I was a kid, and still do. Part of it--especially the worst symptoms, from the time I was about 10-16--has definitely been intermixed with depression. (Unfortunately, when I was referred to a psychiatrist as a child, my parents--and me too, under their influence--dismissed the idea.) But part of it is definitely physical as well. After a recent consultation with my doctor, I have an appointment scheduled with a specialist to see if the physical part of the fatigue might be related to sleep problems.

I think that CF, because the definition is so broad, actually covers a lot of ground--depression, hypochondria, as well as undiagnosed physical ailments. It's definitely not any one thing.

I was diagnosed with CF when I was 24. I think in reality I was just stressed and overly tired from all the overtime I was working at the time. Sometimes, even now I do get tired, for weeks. I just deal with it now by telling myself to snap out of it, or I'll just take a nap. I really think my diagnosis of this was a misdiagnosis.

Psychosomatic illness is not just in the person's head. The symptoms are very real, and should not be ignored.

I know a few young JW's who are quite ill. I fear they are ageing before their time.
