Rude car dealerships

Don't you just hate them ?

I mean the ones that think they are too good to serve you (or you are not good enough to deal with).

As I posted previously, my last contract ended a few weeks ago and I got another that will involve a bit more travel than normal so am looking to get a better car to eat up the mileage and provide a bit more safety. Contract Hire just to get me to and from work safely and efficiently. Just a 'cost' of doing the business.

Of course, my first thought was to "buy british". Then, after rolling on the floor laughing for several minutes I started looking at German cars of course ! (oh, and Swedish as well, I hate to admit ... damn, I will be considering a caravan next )

I must admit, I am not a car person. All cars are the same to me, just different colors. I see them listed, a multitude of makes and models and prices and i have no idea what is what. There should be a law that all companies can only make the same model and just add different trim or something and see who makes it best.

So ... I go round a few dealers to have a look at 'em.

What a difference?!?! Have they not got a clue? Do they not realise that the reason I have gone to the showroom is to look at cars with a view to buying one of their cars?

Now, I admit, I dress like a tramp. Seriously. I have trainers that have seen much better days with bits hanging off and they 'squelch' when I walk (esp in the posh showrooms I found ). If I have to pay more than £10 for a pair of jeans then I think I'm being done and they have to last at least 5 years. I cannot remember the last time I bought clothes - Angharad probably forced me to buy them. I just hate, hate, hate with a passion, anything to do with style and fashion. No, it's true ... ask anyone who's been to an apostafest and met me ! ... and my car is the same. A mess. I clean it once a year whether it needs cleaning or not

What a difference there is between dealerships! Some were 'snotty' beyond belief and will not get my pennies (even though I have to spend quite a few pennies). Others were very friendly and patient despite my ignorance. They will probably sell a nice car.

Why do people who have something to sell alienate possible customers?

They are only interested in extracting as much money from you as possible. If you don't look like you have money they will not pay much attention to you.

I say it is their loss.

When I go shopping for a car I like to dress-down so that they do not assume they can jack the price up.

I was reading about some used car dealers on MSN it blew my mind! They would get people in the showroom and ask to get their car keys to they could get their vehicle "appraised for trade in" and then clean it out and crush it down or sell it off or any number of things BEFORE THEY EVEN CLOSED THE DEAL! It was UNREAL one woman had to resort to calling the police to get them to bring back her car! It's bizarre!

I never ever ever give a dealer my keys or even let them think that I am considering to trade in my car.

I tell them that I will not be trading in my car and negotiate the deal based on that, then at the end I will bring up the trade in. This tends to get me a better deal.

Buying a vehicle is a lottery, even if it's new. I always dress down, too, if only so I can mooch around underneath it.

I hear that some South African models have built-in underslung flamethrowers, to help avoid car-jackings. Gotta get me one of those. Those sheep are right pesky beggars!!!

Perhaps they don't care because they are just employees of the company and have nothing to gain by selling a car so they are not really interested in helping.

I hate going to dealerships. You drive up to the dealership and there you see standing outside - the car salesmen like a pack of hungry wolves. I'm sure they're not all like that but this has been my experience - with one exception. A year ago I went and tried a new place - CarMax. I liked the fact that I was able to go onto their web site, browse their selection of used cars and see exactly the price I was going to pay. No dealing. I also liked being able to go to one place and drive several differnt makes and models. I bought a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was in and out within an hour and a half. This included them arranging a car loan, inspecting and taking my trade in, a Volvo S40, and prepping the car I bought.

But I'm just not sure if they have any cars with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

I'm done with dealerships. The next time I buy a car, I'm going to do it online.

My last experience - I was stupid enough to give the salesman my driver's license... which he held "hostage" for 45 minutes trying to push the sale. I finally got up, dialed my cellphone and asked for the local police department.... it wasn't until I was speaking with the cops, and asked them to send a car over because the dealership had stolen my license that the salesman finally gave it back. What a bunch of jerks....
