Hi Rex B13
You said:
You toss that word (hypocrite) around but it applies to everyone, some worse than others, as we perceive them. Does our "love for the next man" mean we take abusive language, blasphemy of God, etc by laying down and not protesting? You forget, one must also be ready to defend the faith and Jesus did that in righteious anger at times.
I agree "hypicrite" applies to everyone that are hypocritical, no matter if they are christians, muslems, atheists or heathens. That's a valid point. As for what is abusive language, I guess that depends on who is defining the word. What you call "blasphemy of God", I might call great humor. What you call "abusive language", I might find to be an honest display of emotions.
I do understand the fact that you want to defend your faith, and I don't protest to that at all. Why should I? What I do protest to - on a general basis - is that someone not belonging to the "Christian fold" is somewhat less worthy as a human. That someone not believeing in anything, or in something quite different - is less valuable as a human being.
I agree with this but.......why do you insist on offending people, Kent? You claim it is your right to do so under, "free speech", then you whine about being attacked and you have started the argument to begin with! Your Hitler/God tagline is offensive to me for example.
I don't "whine" when I'm attacked, but I believe it's the ultimate stupidity to go for the man instead of the ball - and that's what often happens. I don't have any answers to everything, and my ideas might be dead wrong - of course they can. And I don't mind a bit if anyone disagrees with me. In fact, I would be disappointed if nobody did! But in a discussion, it's the subject which is interesting, not a fight about how the message was said.
It seems many people here believes everyone should have a masters degree in English. Well, I'm from Norway, and I struggle to learn how to master the English language. As a result, I might use words that do offends people - and it just might happen I didn't even mean to offend anyone!
It would be so much better if the ones reading a posting was reading the message, not the form of it. I can't say it's any better making a caracter assasination with perfectly acceptable words than calling anyone a fuckin' prick!
My Hitler/God tagline is offensive to you, I'm sure of that - and a bit amused, because the content of the message can be proven from the Bible itself! Anyway, I don't use it any more. Personally, I'm offended when someone tells me I need to be saved! That's offensive to me, and to many others. And the reason is simple - the person saying a thing like that - feels superior to me. I have to become like him/her to have a chanse. That's back to the Witchpower, right?
I agree with the intent of your post. If the unbelievers would lighten up on the generalized Bible and Christian bashing you'd have less arguments. I get tired of explaining to people that we each answer to our Lord by our own actions and human organizations are not "Christianity". Hey, there are believers and non-believers but this forum is an example of true apostasy gone wild at times.
Christoans SHOULD lighten up, my friend. That is something you believe should happen, isn't it? Something you could use as a "proof" of being the "right believers"? That's how the Witchpower uses it, you know - and if you believe in what you're saying, you should be grateful. Wasn't that what Paul said?
This site may be an examples at times of ANYTHING going wild. We're humans here - and I can't see any so called "apostates" (from what?) being more wild, spiteful or stupid than anyone else.
I wholeheartedly agree. Perhaps all of us can be mindful of the feelings of others. I know its difficult, the first reaction from 'dubs when you critisize the Society is "you hate us".
What happens to me is my threads get hijacked by jerks who want to flame me for being a Christian. Look at my posts and you will see who they are. Yes, I have come on too strong at times. I have really returned some of the flaming and probably too much.
Not perfect, never will be till I get to Glory.
Valid points, my friend - valid points. Flaming isn't the best way to discuss - no matter from whom. Unfortunately, it's often a human response. I guess you will agree to the fact that you're not the mildest person on earth, and neither am I. But I agree to the hijacking stuff. Some people do that all the time, and succeed. And why? Because people are easy to fool.
When a valid point is brought to attention, there is ALWAYS someone that starts discussing something in the post that is COMPLETELY UNINTERESTING, and totally different than the subject in question. If this person uses some bad language, calls the poster a "fuckin' prick" or whatever, the Red Herring does its work. And time and time again, people fall for it.
Upon time someone tried to sort out these people, and brought the discussions back on track! I agree with you here, Rex.
