I once read that Superman could never have sex with Lois Lane. Because he is superstrong and a "man of steel", his sperm would be ejaculated at supersonic speed and riddle Lois's body like millions of pellets from a shotgun. She would literally explode and her head would be blown off.

No, that`s just a female sexual fantasy.

You found that quote in the reasoning book too?

Here is the reference for Superman and LL, its called Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex, by famous SF author Larry Niven (author of "The Mote in God's Eye").

    AllAlongTheWatchtower:

I couldn't find any charts or anything which gave an example for 6"x12 feet, but if you divide the 16" log discussed above by 3, you get a log about 5 1/3". If you take the average weights of the above listed logs of various woods, you get about 1200 pounds. (1197 if you wanna be technical, but even numbers work nicely.) Since we divided our diameter by 3, we now divide the average weight by 3, and come up with 5 1/3"x12' of log = 400 pounds.

You actually need to divide by 9, as it's the area of the circle that would be relevant to the weight, not the diameter. (The volume of a cylinder is Pi r^2h). That would give you a weight of about 130lbs

I was thinking along those lines, too, but my math brain is all befuddled from trying to figure out football stats. oy! That sounds about right to me, though.

    Carmel,

And I bear it well. ;)

Hmmm...funkyderek, all I can say is that the 400 number sounded good at the time. Now you've got me thinking though, I've had to plant fence posts before, which do not weigh all that much, and our theoretical pole would about equal a double length fence post. Ah well...serves me right for trying to sound all scientific about it, lol.

Re the Superman thing-LMFAO. I've never read that in its entirety, thanks for the link. I think the first time I heard something like that (shorter version) was in Clerks or Mallrats.

"He was usually naked, unless this was prohibited by local customs.11 Since the weight of the entire cross was probably well over 300 lb (136 kg), only the crossbar was carried (Fig 3).11 The patibulum, weighing 75 to 125 lb. (34 to 57 kg), 11,30 was placed across the nape of the victim’s neck and balanced along both shoulders". ("On the Physical Death of Jesus Christ," William D. Edwards, et al., JAMA, 21 March 1986)
