Why is it cool to be "crazy"?

As some of you know, I have been doing some internet dating some of which has been a good experience, some dissapointing.

Having in the past been out with a few women who had a rather unstable nature to varying degrees, I've made apoint of ignoring users who call themselves "crazy", "a bit loopy", "nutter". You would actually be suprised how common this is.

Now this post is by no means intended to upset anyone on this board who has "issues", many here have and I have had in the past - and it''s not suprising seeing as what some of us have been through.

I'm just interested to know what is the significance of people describing themselves this way either in their name or in their profile. You could argue that the name "Ballistic" in itself could be off-putting - although it really is an inappropriate name for describing my personality and interestingly I am getting more emails since I did away with it.

Well, my latest friend seemed really nice by email, then msn messenger popped up with the name "crazy chick" and she proceeded to tell me about her (typically English) heavy drinking habits. Here we go again.

I think people might refer to crazy as the term they need when they may mean to say spontanious, fun loving, full of life, don't own a thesaurus... and so on.

Be careful, Ballistic, know this, that only a crazy person states, "I am not crazy."

i once read or heard that if you listen, people will unknowingly tell you who/what they are when you first meet them. and their self described adjectives are usually dead on. if some chicks are telling you they are crazy it may be safe to assume they are. so unless you get a kick out of that sort of thing, and it doesnt sound like you do, proceed w. caution.

Hi ballistic, I don't think its really so much "'crazy' being cool", but maybe these women who would label themselves as such know that they are a little outside the norm (not always bad) and that like to feel the emotional rush of being "crazy".

For example, I have an aquaintance who is an artist, and she acts like a crazy, panicy, prone to tantrums, "artist". I eventually got really put off from it all, so I just stopped making time for her. I know that's not the nicest thing to do, but I choose not to interact with people who abuse others with their emotional outbursts.

Have you ever noticed that people like this tend to draw others like them into their lives? Granted, it can be fun once in a while to hangout with them, but it becomes very tiring very fast.

I used to think that it was me who was "crazy", but I've started to think that maybe it is society in general that is also crazy.

At least they are honest . LOL I've never had one of the "normal " relationships so am inclined to think they are all a little off the norm . However you are just trying to meet people ........ some times a little risk pays off ...... Jeeze I don't think anybody here that was a dub or related to dubs should be put off by the mentally challenged ................

'Crazy' is viewed as being a bit off-the-wall and unpredictable. This sounds like an exiting trait, as opposed to boring. I find that a lot of people call themselves 'mad' when they are not really.

Well, there's some interesting thoughts, so some think it is an indicator of a problem and some not. "Full of life" sounds good, but why wouldn't people advertise themselves as "spontanious, fun loving, full of life" instead of "a bit loopy". Even "mentally sane" would do.

Perhaps they are watching too many SNL reruns?

    Wild & Crazy Guys

    Georg Festrunk.....Dan Aykroyd
    Yortuk Festrunk.....Steve Martin
    Lynn.....Jane Curtin
    Barb.....Gilda Radner

[ open on Lynn and Barb playing Ping-Pong in apartment complex Rec Room ]

[ suddenly, George and Yortuk Festrunk, two wild and crazy guys, Czech brothers dressed in tight pants and loud unbuttoned polyester shirts, medallions swinging over their chests, enter the Rec Room ]

Georg Festrunk: Excuse me, sorry to interrupt! But I was just wondering something. I am Georg Festrunk, and this is my brother Yortuk. We have a wash going in the next room, and we need some change for the dryer, can you help?

Barb: Uh, I'm sorry, I don't have any change.

Georg Festrunk: [ laughs ] Well, you know, usually we have lots of change, because we are both swinging guys! Both my brother Yortuk and I enjoy doing many things.

Yortuk Festrunk: We are.. two wild and crazy guys!

    Georg Festrunk: I'll say!
