I guess, looking at Revelation chapter 6 and 9, where large proportions of the earths poulation get wiped out, maybe He will permit a large scale nuclear war.

Taking the Bible prophecies out of the equation, I still think He would permit it - otherwise we've no free will.

Half the population is either starving to death or perishing from aids. Whats the difference?

Good point defd. It again comes down to free will.

Well, I guess that since God wants to destroy 99.9% of the humans at Armageddon soon, he wouldn't want us to destroy ourselves beforehand in a nuclear war....

Unless he destroys 99.9% of what's left after a nuclear war...

God does not WANT to destroy anybody. He would rather have them CHANGE from thier bad ways and keep living.

Say to them, ‘“As I am alive,” is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, “I take delight, not in the death of the wicked one, but in that someone wicked turns back from his way and actually keeps living. Turn back, turn back from YOUR bad ways, for why is it that YOU should die, O house of Israel?”’ Ezekiel 33:11 Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance 2Peter 3:9

look into my eyes tetra!! defd - assuming there is a God, it's all very well him saying it's not his desire to do it - that does not mean the same as he won't. It's not my desire to get out of bed in the mornings, but I still do it anyway

    So what's the difference?

Killing tens of billions of people slowly and painfully over time...

Or incinerating (for the most part painlessly) 6 billion people in a nanosecond?

The "christian" "God"...has shown he much prefers slow agonizing painful life followed by death...then the more "humane" choice.

Dog has shown what whet's his palate.

p.s.- the "Survival" book (green cover) said in it's final chapter that the Bible did NOT rule out the limited use of nuclear weapons prior to the Big A....although it qualified...the Earth would not be brought "completely" to ruin...

---"The REASON why God PERMITS (not causes) suffering is another story"---
Isn't it because Satan pissed him off?
The next time my daughter makes me mad, I'm going to allow her to torture my neighbor's cats. That sounds like a good way to handle it.

Since your god has never prevented any other tragedy from befalling man and killing millions, even by his own hands, there is no reason to assume he would interfere in a nuclear confrontation.

The entire planet has been booby-trapped with some 60,000 nuclear weapons-- far more than enough to obliterate both the US and the Soviet Union, jeopardize the global civilization, and possibly end the million year human experiment.

Because of the nuclear arms race, everyone in Russia has handed their lives over to the leaders of the US. By the same token, if Moscow decides we should die....20 minutes later, we're dead. We ( U.S and Russia) have spent 40+ years making ourselves vulnerable to instant annihilation. We have made a fools bargain. All in the name of patriotism and "national security".
