Why are you staying home?
I would think a nice hotel in Dallas for a few days would be a treat.

xjwms, yes, it would, but I was thinking of something closer in case we hafta leave. I just emailed Country Girl. She lives near Austin. She's probably not up yet, but I'll phone her around noon this morning and see if she can handle 6 hurricane refugees if need be.

Take care, Frannie! My sister is in Houston, so I'm worried about her too. No telling exactly where this thing is going to go yet. Very scary that it's already a Cat 4 and still has most of the gulf to cross. I'm hoping it fizzles out a bit before it hits land.

Will do, Luna2. Yes, they showed us this morning that Rita is scheduled to hit Matagorda, just SW of Houston, so it's full force will be the Greater Houston area. They've already closed the schools for the remainder of the week.
There's no chance that it'll fizzle any crossing the Gulf. I expect it to increase somewhat in force before it hits land. Hurricanes mostly only lose power as they landfall. Sorry.

Take care Frannie, hope everything goes OK.

Thanks, Josie. I'm sure we'll be alright. Anyway, Athene probably has room for us and we'll be plenty welcome there at her house. Her hubby and my SIL should get along famously. They're both Microsoft-certified computer gurus...heheheh

Thanks for posting, Frannie. You guys in Texas have been on my mind. I'm hoping that the storm will side-step you all (y'all). I've never been thru a hurricane; only a 75-mph windstorm, which I would not want to repeat!
Take care!!!

What ever you decide, I hope you stay safe. I really enjoyed the jokes.
So we need you here, ... O K ?
Next month I will be in Dallas for a few days for business. I will enjoy a nice hotel stay.

Thanks, Bebu! I guess it's our turn on the Gulf coast. They've been hitting the Carolinas, Florida, Missipippi and Bama shores and we've been spared for a while.
BTW, "only a 75-mph windstorm" IS a freakin' hurricane, cher!

Thanks, xjwms! It's always nice to be told we're appreciated, as I'm sure all posters will agree. I hope you get in touch with Nina and her hubby and Valis and Lisa while you're there. Great people in Dallas!!! You'll have fun, I'm sure. Plus enjoy meeting them. I think Sparkplug is in that area, too.! Enjoy!

hi Frannie
I was thinking about you because I remembered your relative location on the Map.. Glad to hear your doing what is necessary to keep safe, fed, and dry..
evacutions have certainly begun with such places as Galveston. I could be wrong but I thought I listened to a report this morning that Galveston was hit by a hurricane in 1900 and thousands died in. that one.. They have almost 100 buses ready to evacuate those not able to get a ride out of there.
Katrina was a big big wake up call for us all as to what CAN happen.
be safe, Frannie
I'm sure you will be safe, cause you are such a "smart cookie"..and it already sounds like you got plan B, C, D.. already on the burner.
My husband's company jet is flying him home Friday from down that way. This time, I'll be glad when he sets foot in the door.
love
