Looks like a monster
JH, they announced 10 mins. ago that Rita is up to 150 mph and will escalate to category 5 if winds reach 155 mph, so it's even more powerful than Katrina.
We're waiting to see if it'll get worse, because we know that as soon as it makes landfall, the storm will begin losing its strength and the winds will ebb in power, too. After all, we're 45 miles inland.

It's now a Catagory 5. Frannie, I can just picture you going to Doogie's and grabbing an earlobe, and yanking him down from his 3rd story castle. Telling him he better get his ASS to Dallas.
On the Weather Channel just now, the lady was telling some of the things to stock up on. Water, Batteries, Alcohol,... But then she corrected herself and said rubbing alcohol. LOL She should have just listed those as seperate. HL

Doogie better get in touch with Nina and Big T, cause there are NO hotel/motel rooms left all the way into Oklahoma!!!
LOL! We just left the groc. store where we got SIX CASES of bottled water, chips, cookies, canned meats, soups, canned and fresh fruit.....well......two grocery carts full to overflowing, including the bottom rack. If the electricity goes out, we'll head up to Marble Falls.

Hey Frannie!
Y'all git on outa thar, ya' hear me now !? I lived in New Orleans till I was 13 and went thru Betsy in '65 (the last time the levees broke!). Houston is my home town and most of my jw/non-jw relatives live around those parts.
PLEASE, be careful. Don't take any chances with this thing. It is a Cat 5 now with 165 mph winds. I read that a storm surge of 50' is possible @ Galveston...which is only 7' - 8' above sea level. The Seawall is only 17 feet high. The entire island could be submerged with that possibility.
We will have y'all on our minds. Btw, if it follows the computer track...it will come thru Austin, then up I-35 thru Ft,Worth/Dallas where we are.
*Sheesh*

Then it will track into S Oklahoma where I am. We will just see how good this new roof is. HL

I'm trying to get to austin from houston as quick as I can. The traffic is horrific though, and there is absolutely no gas.

Black Sheep
I hope you guys are going to be OK. I slept through a Cat 4 earlier this year (second time I have done that), but it is a bit different on a mountainous island.

Good luck and stay safe! And remember, if your white, you found the food, but if your black you looted that shop for the food!! Seriously I hope the media don't repeat the appalling coverage they applied to the Katrina incident! I don;t know how you 'Mercans can stomach the media in your country, i see it on cable here and am appalled by the overtly patronising and right wing agenda on all the media outlets! Shame onyou Bush & Co.
