Why write a letter of disassociation?

We're glad that we sent our letter. No-one phones us or calls on us anymore. Of course, it's much more difficult for ones who still have family in the Org. Fortunately, only my own brother and his wife and family are still in, but he still speaks to me, and I hope that one day he will make a stand against the cult.

I wrote a letter only a couple of months ago, almost 6 years after my last kh visit. I did it because, after not being bothered for a while, I was starting to get visits and phone calls again, not many, I will admit, but an elder I met in the street reminded me that, despite it being several years since I had attended, I was still a baptised jw.I realised how much I hated that thought, and wrote my da letter a couple of weeks later, around the time I discovered this board. I am glad I did it now, I am officially out of the borg and won't get bothered again.

    the "fade" is a cop-out.

    I disagree...

When I stopped attending Boy Scout meetings...I didn't DA myself.

When I ceased being "friends" with anyone...I don't write a letter to "explain"...

    If I boycott a certain business...or restaurant...I don't send a certified letter...

    I just f*cking QUIT.

Even the term DA is theirs...I don't play by their rules anymore. There is no invisible observers taking notes...making sure I "resigned". They can call me whatever they please...and I can certainly return the favor....hehehe.

But, I have no problem if someone feels the need to write a letter, call or whatever...if it gives you closure...GREAT.

Quite the good letter written by DocBob to his former JW associates here: http://www.docbob.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=5

And this, of course, is my favorite non-DA letter to the elders, from which I borrowed some of its thoughts in composing my own non-DA letter, again from DocBob: http://www.docbob.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=6

If anything, click on the second link, at least. You won't be disappointed.
