Anyone here remember the nuke bomb drills in gradeschool in the early to mid 60's? As ineffective as they would have been, it made eveyone think that they were at least doing something to protect themselves. I also remember all the bomb shelter signs around town. JC Penney's Basement in Lloyd Center Mall was one location.

In regard to economic fears in the US, you might want to read a report called "Fears and Facts"

    at www.smithbarney.com

( you gotta register to read it) It addresses all of the common fears about the economy - the trade deficit, inflation, consumer

    savings, etc.

I am very skeptical about the world economy - but it is important to hear both sides and that can be very difficult when most

reporting is dominated by fear-mongering rather than reasoned analysis. The Wall Street Journal often publishes solidly grounded

economic editorials you can't find anywhere else, as well as a lot of political commentary that's heads and shoulders above 99%

    of the nations newspapers.

    Tetra,

They forgot a couple of good ones:

L'imagination au pouvoir! -- Power to imagination.

Nous sommes jeunes: nous ne pouvons pas attendre -- We are young: we cannot wait.

Elections, piège à cons! -- Elections, sucker trap!

Si les élections servaient à quelque chose il y a longtemps que ça serait interdit -- If elections could change anything they would have long been forbidden.

CRS, SS! Etudiants, diants, diants! -- CRS, SS! Students, dents, dents! (CRS is the designation of the antimob police) Consommez plus, vous vivrez moins -- Consume more, you'll live less. Jeunes femmes rouges toujours plus belles -- Red young women ever more beautiful.

You know, I always tend to go with the, yeah, rumours of our demise have been greatly exaggerated, but I have to say that nukes and biological weapons are a little different than what has gone before, at least to my way of thinking. Just seems like we are so much more efficient at killing each other now.

    Metatron:

I will agree that chaos and dissaster are often productive. If it weren't for the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs our branch of the tree of life would have never had a chance. We would still be peeking behind rocks.

Perhaps the earth needs a good nuclear nightmare to scare us all into cooperating.

Didn't this whole thing start out with a big bang?
