Is it disrespectful to call GOD by his name JEHOVAH?
by foolsparadise ini have been thinking about this alot recently.
calling our god the creator by his first name jehovah takes alot of nerve.
my 10 year oll son doesnt walk around calling me by my first name.

Jesus said to pray like this.... "Our father who art in heaven, Harold be thy name"
God doesnt CARE what you call him as long as you CALL HIM. :) Seriously...even deaf mutes who never spoke nor heard his name, can still be heard by God since he reads hearts.
Why do we do this stuff to ourselves???

Should I Formally Apologize?
by lifelong humanist inwhat do you members think - is there any mileage in 'formally' apologizing to my 4 sons (now aged 20 - 34) of my stupid jw indoctrination during their formative years?
i still have pangs of guilt.
yet, on balance, i have to admit that it couldn't have been too damaging as they are all totally out of the cult.

They may or may not need to hear you say it but YOU need to hear yourself say it, and you will be forgiven and you will be able to move on. My mother in law is going through this and unfortunately two of her adult...make that three...are baptized and two of them shun her. And she is married now to an elder so her life will never be any kind of normal or settled. She went from praying her children who werent baptized would DIE before Armageddon comes to now praying that those in get OUT. It tears her apart.
I, too, apologized to my entire nonJW family for the hell I put them through when I was a JW. Its cathartic for you...and begins the healing.

So she shuffled the responsibility of teaching the kids the JWs off onto you instead of getting herself reinstated and NOW she wants to pick up the ball and is all self righteous about it? Puhleeeeze.
Take a deep breath. Dont get crazy. Kids arent stupid and they watch YOU and how YOU live your life. The crap they are exposed to at the hall, the over their heads ADULT talks and stuff, mean nothing to them. You live your life, show them the beauty of the holidays and how special they are on their birthdays...you have nothing to fear from her doing this. In fact, she may go through all the trouble of getting reinstated and not be able to continue the ruse, and will drop back out again.
Hang in there.

A sense of pride and new found confidence
by highdose inhey guys!
i'm back from my first ever date with a non jw guy!
i'll tell more about that later, but as i was on the way there i remembered about how i used to pray before meeting a jw date, ( none of which ever worked out) and i realised that not praying and not attributing everything good to god has really boosted my confidence and thereby my pride.. it means that whatever goes right in my life is down to me and my hard work.

Proof Jehovah's Witnesses have been declining for nearly 20 years? (At least in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand)

If a corporation was increasing in profit margin 15% a year steadily. They would be very happy. If that increase suddenly started to be less and less, even though it was still an "increase" would they rest on their laurels? Would they be happy that now 10 years later they are still getting a steady 1-2% increase? Isnt that in fact a DECREASE?
That is what is happening with the JWs. Its not anybodys wishful thinking. They are spending exponentially more time out banging on doors and in bible studies with less and less converts to show for the effort. And the great majority of their converts are not converts at all, but the children of existing JWs and they werent found in the ministry. So that number of new publishers to hours in field service becomes rediculously high and nigh on useless.
The more they decrease, the more their numbers and attendance shrink (and the attendance at the Memorial isnt any more an indicator of interest in the cult than attendance at Christmas Eve services would indicate there is going to be an influx of butts in seats the following Sunday) the tighter their grip becomes on the rank and file. The more pharisaic rules they add. The stricter their position on contact with apostates and exjws...particularly family members....becomes. And the more they are hated.
Its a self fulfilling prophecy. They are going to self destruct just like that snake that eats its own tail.

Dissolved Congregation
by dudeson ini heard recently that 1 of the 4 congregations in our relatively small area has been "dissolved" and relocating many of them to the hall i used to attend.
it must be due to the low numbers these days.
our average sunday meeting attendance when i left was around 75.. does this seem to be a growing trend recently?.

People in these congregations were always forced to be in one or the other based on where they lived. And when you force people together there is resentment and backbiting. People dont choose to go to CHURCHES they dont like and sit with parishioners they dont get along with but the JWs have to. I hardly like ANY of the people in at least two of the congregations I was in. And you then have to deal with them 5 hours a week and for every service time? And all the pot lucks? Ugh...blech.
Sometimes they break up these disfunctional congregations and feed the parts to other congregations in lieu of lining them all up and shooting them and getting the teal and purple paisley carpeting bloody.

Dumbest Awake Title Ever?
by metatron ini hold in my hand the nov. awake magazine entitled "technology - blessing or curse?"..
now, i understand the need for balance and moderation in using technology, as the magazine says - but could they come up with a more intelligent sounding title?
it makes the question sound as if abandoning technology might be a solution, a considered choice, a real possibility.

How long did it take before you started talking to others about being an ex-dub?
by the real life ini was just wondering if any of you took time to speak openly about being an ex-witness.. sometimes, when it came up naturally, i told some of my friends; in other cases, i felt really uncomfortable talking about it.
in fact, it's a little strange, but i felt more comfortable telling casual friends rather than the people closest to me.
i often felt like it was a huge revelation to make, often to find that people weren't really that shocked.

Oh yeah right away I did, as soon as I was officially DAd I told my whole family and HIS whole family and my neighbors...because before then we had to temper and limit our contact with those EVIL WORLDLY PEOPLE (echo echo echo) :) And it turns out they were ecstatic to see me and my kids free and were basically holding their breath around us trying not to offend us because we were JWs. When we left all their anxiety left and I got some fast and lasting new friends, and closer to relatives that were keeping us at arms distance all that time.
And I went nuts online anti-witnessing trying to undo all the damage I may have done trying to convert people. I made it my mission to get people OUT of the Borg as much as I could.
Im not at all ashamed of having been a JW. It was a learning experience and has put me in a position to help others get out.
