I think they should put those odds out there for you when you are considering studying with them. I think it would definitely cut down on the number of people bothering to join. "Hey Mrs. Newstudy. Before we get into the chapter on giving up Christmas and birthdays, perhaps we should discuss your 1 in 5 chances of even surviving Armageddon after going through this study, total humiliation at the doors, 150 embarrassing baptismal questions, thousands of hours of boring, useless meetings and public submersion?"

Help! I need advideQ Elders want to speak to me..
by cia171 inas you read in the title, the elders from my congregation want to have a chat with me...which could be about to things...either why havent i gotten baptized ( since ive been in this since i was born...ive been tortured all my life lol) or either because i have a worldly boyfriend.. i dont know what to say in either case!
i cant say i dont want to get baptized because i have to appear to like the religion til i graduate college cuz my mom pays for it and is pract blackmailing me with it, and i cant say tht i will cause i hate it!
and about my boyfriend they will either give me advice about why not to be with him or convert him...so i dont know what to say to to pacify them and not let it get to me...so any advice?

When Jesus gave his sermon on the mount, some people got up and went home. Some people stood up and went to him to get baptized. He didnt chase after the ones who left and DEMAND now that they had heard him speak, that they MAKE A DECISION NOW about being baptized or not. He allowed them to think it over, and get baptized if they wanted to. Getting baptized is a very personal decision and not one you want to be pressured into to please others. You can tell them that you appreciate their concern but that when you are ready in your spiritual path to get baptized you will inform them. And as you are not baptized yet, they cant do anything TO YOU and your BF is not "uneven yoking" since neither of you are officially JWs.
Just because you have been around the religion all your life doesnt make you one on their books by osmosis.
Be kind...be firm...its your life.

FED UP WITH IT ALL !
by billie jean inhi, i haven't used this for a long time, due to the feeling of not needing to.
i've been getting on with life, fine, for some time now.
so been out 10 years, parents and other family still in.. well i guess i'm just asking how you cope, really, my family are becoming worse with me, and my son, (who has autism), little by little, and just the general putting the jw life before everything else, including me, my child, life in general, simple things and keeping us at arms length, it's really hard, as i have a relative trying to dig dirt on me, spreading it round the family in order to try and cause more upset for me.. so just a simple question, on how you've all coped in this situation.. thanks .

How very loving of them to, instead of trying to build you up, are trying to dig up dirt on you to make you what....want to RUN BACK? Is that what someone is supposed to do to encourage someone to come back? JWs have the mentality that they are personally in charge of ruining the lives of anyone who dares to question, or god forbid LEAVE the Borg and life the life God gave them! They are miserable human beings and wont rest until they can take someone else down and make them miserable too.
Your best revenge is to live a good full life with your children. Show your kids that the opinions of others dont matter and people who find fault with you or them are just very unhappy themselves and should be pitied.
You cant change them...but you can put up protective walls around yourselves including not allowing them access to your children. That is your right.
hugs

Me
by Sighco injust thought i should share a bit of my story with you all, i'm on this board everyday and can't stop reading.
i was raised as a witness by my mother and grandmother, dad and gramps weren't witnesses.
i was baptized at 15, i believed it was the truth but was still pushed into baptism by my mom, she thought it reflected negativly on her as a mother that i wasn't dipped yet.

Thanks for sharing your journey with us and welcome :) However painful it has been for all of us, we have learned so much and become so much stronger because of it. And we wont be duped into just accepting someone elses dogma without question ever again for damn sure!
Hugs to you and your wife!

Watchtower most widely read magazine??? Gawd
by ESTEE ini have not posted in a very long time, but here is a link i thought might be of interest.
it made our local paper, likely sent by the jws for some more free publicity.. http://communities.canada.com/vancouversun/blogs/thesearch/archive/2010/05/27/what-is-the-most-widely-read-magazine-in-world.aspx?commentposted=true#commentmessage.
i posted a reply under their comments.

Elsewhere...exactly. Just because there are 10 million copies made a month or whatever, doesnt mean the GREAT MAJORITY of them arent sitting in piles in closets and garages and in the bottoms of bookbags and at laundrymats TOTALLY unread. I know that I personally RARELY read any articles from ANY of those publications except those that we were "studying" and even those I read cursorily.
This statistic means about as much as the number of hours spent in the field service in terms of productivity or even marginal usefulness LOLOL

Day 2 of the Convention is over ... what's missing?
by wannabefree inday number 2 is done.. there was an audio drama, sure, it adds some excitement, hey, its different.. final talk "stay close to jehovah, as jeremiah did" ended with the release of the book ... god's word for us through jeremiah ... not a verse by verse consideration of prophecy, rather, what we can learn from jeremiah's life as a prophet, considers information from jeremiah and lamentations.
(of course informed readers of this site knew of this release already.).
noticibly missing ... jesus christ ... to me it was painfully obvious.. one talk i think was numbing our mind to accept the generation bomb tomorrow.. i couldn't help but realize that throughout the convention so far, the vast majority of scriptural references are from old testament (yes, it was hard not to say hebrew scriptures, so i just did).. i didn't realize it so much in the past, but it seems like jehovah's witnesses are trying to accomplish what the nation of israel couldn't, follow laws.

I physically get heebie jeebies when I think about conventions. SKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEBS!!! Ugh blech!! I admire your intestinal fortitude and at the same time am very sorry for your having to endure that. There would be projectile hurling if I was forced to listen to that drivel FOR EVEN ONE MORE SECOND and watch all those fake ass holy wannabees walking around trolling for mates and being told what to do like a bunch of brainless cattle.
WHAT WERE WE THINKING PEOPLE????? Ugh....where is my Pepto.

I guess they want to make sure that the serve staff at the restaurants in the area know for sure who the cheap-ass clientele are who arent leaving any tips for anybody ever. Thats a great way to advertise advertise advertise aint it.

A Responsible Discussion on Ray Franz's Role in the Lives of Former JW's
by AllTimeJeff insince it was learned that ray franz went to the hospital and then passed away, most threads have in my opinion, correctly tried to give some honor and respect to a courageous, honest, and principled man.. some borderline trolls, who know many former jw's are easily upset (and they know this.
i know this...) try to take advantage by hitting on a hot button.
in this case, its to call you a follower of ray franz.. we all know that isn't true.. but i think that a legitimate discussion on this is in order.

We all have followed some belief or another, or some set of writers, speakers, organizational creedos in our lives. Thats what people do and how they shape their own ideas and actions. So as soon as I decided to change the direction of my "beliefs" to being a JW..which was a RADICAL change of direction from being a Methodist...I was accused of being a Russelite. As soon as I traded in THAT set of "Truths" for the "Truth about the Truth" as presented by Ray, David Reed, Jim Penton, Rand Watters and others....I was accused of being followers of THEM. But the only ones who gave a shit about my change of beliefs were the ones still stuck in the OLD set who were miserable and still stuck there and mostly jealous of my new found freedom and life.
I didnt follow Ray. Ray opened the door, like the gentleman he was, and the choice to walk through it or not was entirely my own. And thats the way he wrote as well. "I need to write this. Here it is." And that was the end of it.
Love you Ray.
